Arcanechromatism

When an Ostyrian is born there is a chance that they are born with a form of chromaticism, it actually quite common amongst all species, however it is very rare for someone to be born with Arcanechromatism for it requires for them to be touched by planar magic at some point during their conception, forming and/or birth.
Someone with Arcanechromatism sees the world in black and white however in the presence of magic, colors are abound. All forms of magic have a color to them and typically it can only be seen via spell-craft, but those with this condition are able to see it freely. It paints their world in magical color, more bright and vivid than ever. However this vivid sight only last for a while, for eventually anyone with Arcanechromatism will go completely blind. There is not exact time frame for this and why it happens is unknown but some surmise that seeing magic in such a raw and unprotected way is dangerous, like flying to close to the sun.
Mages and scientist for centuries have studied Arcanechromatism in hopes of finding other utility or abilities associated with it. Controlled experiments to see if it can be forced are also conduct in some parts of Ostyria, in seedier areas.
Causes
A person born with Arcanechromatism is believed to have been touched by planar magic before birth. This condition has been noted to be present in more of the converged species, species that came to Ostyria during The Planar Convergence or were evolved by it.
