Ostea Colonization of the Deva System Timeline

Colonization of the Deva System

  • 3115 BC

    Arrival at the Deva System
    Founding

The first arrivals of humans in the Deva System, a solar system orbiting a pair of binary stars. The humans who arrived here had all been born on board a Generation Ship, as the ships originally left Earth several hundred years prior.

    Creation of Dawn Station
    Founding

Dawn Station was the first human constructions in the System, and was effectively a single Generation Ship that was re-purposed into a space station. As the station settled into orbit around the most habitable world in the system, those on board began to re-acclimatize themselves to life on a planet. It would take several generations before the children of those that crossed the void of space would be able to set foot on the ground again.

  • 3189 BC

    Creation of Terminus Station
    Founding

The Terminus Station was the second space station founded in the system, by the only other generation ship that made it to the system.  However, the other planets in the system were going to require terraforming in order to make them habitable outside of small bubbles.  The Terminus Station, rather than focusing on creating a colony, began coordinating terraforming efforts across several terrestrial worlds in the system's habitable zone.

    Settling of Grenesh
    Founding

The most promising settlement candidate, Grenesh, is settled by the inhabitants of Dawn Station.  The lush, green world proves dangerous, but livable .

  • 3327 BC

    Settling of Bidania
    Founding

Settlers from Dawn Station found the first colony on the moon of Bidania - a world trapped in night by a strange orbit with it's planet, Grenesh. The planet obtains a normal day/night cycle about four times a year, for 2-3 weeks at a time, but beyond that does not receive any sunlight. Thus, the terraforming required here involved promoting geo-thermal activity to provide heat sources for life on this moon, and then seeding the genetics of the species introduced to the planet with bioluminescence.

  • 3401 BC

    Settlement of Ovos
    Founding

Settlers from Terminus Station settle on the small moon of Ovos.  While less of a challenge to terraform than Ostea, Ovos offers limited habitable area on it's surface due to erratic and dangerous weather patterns.  This world cannot safely support large settlements without requiring a great deal of infrastructure.

  • 3402 BC

    Settling of Ostea

The founding of the first city on the Moon of Ostea, caused quite a stir.

  • 3419 BC

    Settlement of Uman
    Founding

Settlers from Terminus Station settle on the small moon of Uman.  However, these colonies are also limited due to Uman being a water-world.  Only about 20% of the planet's surface is above sea-level.

    The Long Dark
    Disaster / Destruction

The Star Viggio, at the center of the Wemner System, entered a period of intense activity, generating a series of Coronal Mass Ejections more powerful than any that had ever been observed. Space stations and ships completely shut down and, without a way to stabilize their orbit, eventually crashed into the planets they circled or floated off into the void of space. Colonies lost all power overnight, with many machines fried beyond repair. The count of dead was beyond estimation - overnight, humanity went from the apex species of the system, to fighting for their own survival.
