the 3 largest and most powerful families in Terresant vied for power and warred with each other. The 3 families were: The Laitore Family whose symbol was a golden rose, the Valere family whose symbol was the white rose with large red thorns, and the Bastille family whose symbol was a blue rose. This great war became known as the War of the Roses. Eventually ending in an agreement that the Laitore Family would rule as king, the greatly weakened Valere family was mostly absorbed into the Laitore Family and were given charge of the royal guard/ military, and the Bastille Family would be in charge of policing and justice within the kingdom.
