The Emperors Guard
Founded within The Lost Empire by a handful of citizens that called it home, The Emperors Guard act as the main military guard for the region keeping the peace not just in the towns and cities but ensuring the nearby kingdoms and empires don't encroach upon them.
Structure
The militia has six ranks that follow a military structure. Leading the organization is the Major General, below them are the Commanders, followed by Captains, Lieutenants, Sergeants, and finally Privates. Those who join the Guard can go down one of two tracks; the martial track or the investigator track. The martial units make up the majority of the organization, with the investigators being found only in cities with rough numbers of one to three per thirty martial guards. In order to join the Investigator track one must be at least at the Lieutenant rank, take an exam, and have received a recommendation letter from their superior officer.
- Private (Level 1-3): The members at this rank make up the majority of the organization, around 35%. They are paid 4 sp per day or 14 gp per month, are given basic armor and weaponry, living quarters when stationed at an outpost, and when stationed at an outpost work on a three-week on one-week off rotation. On top of this, they must wear purple tunics with the guild crest on them while working and may wear the ceremonial crest during weddings and funerals.
- Sergeant (Level 4-7): This rank makes up around 15% of the militia and their main tasks are the training of new recruits, leading squads in guard duty and prisoner transfers, and keeping the outposts working in the day-to-day activities. They are paid 5 sp per day or 17 gp per month, are given armor and weaponry, living quarters when stationed at an outpost, and when stationed at an outpost they work on a three-week on one-week off rotation that follows the same schedule as their squad of privates. They also must wear purple tunics with the standard crest and may wear the ceremonial crest during weddings and funerals.
- Lieutenant or Lieutenant Investigator (Level 8-11): The lieutenants make up the first formal level of leadership within the Guard, as they are in charge of platoon training, overseeing the safety of sergeants and privates, running the checkpoints into cities and towns, and approving requests that come through the checkpoints. They are paid 8 sp per day or 28 gp per month, are given armor and weaponry, and living quarters when stationed at an outpost. If stationed at an outpost they work on a three-week on one-week off rotation. They also must wear purple tunics with the standard crest and may wear the ceremonial crest for important events. If they are an Investigator they are commonly called LI - followed by last name, and are in charge of the day-to-day parts of investigating crimes; door knocking, finding records, and keeping track of witnesses. At least one is present in each town/city of the Lost Empire, with the only town unable to support an investigator currently being Caldshire.
- Captains or Captain Investigator (Level 12-15): This rank is primarily in charge of the town postings and enforcing the rules of both the militia and the town they're posted in. They also lead companies that come out of the outposts and work directly with the Commanders within their outpost region. They are paid 1 gp per day or 35 gp per month, are given armor and weaponry, living quarters when stationed at an outpost, and a stipend for housing when stationed in a town or city. When stationed at an outpost they work on a three-week on one-week off rotation. They may also bring their families with them to their postings They also must wear purple tunics with the standard crest and may wear the ceremonial crest for important events. They are also given time off for holidays and important dates. If they are an Investigator they are commonly called CI - followed by last name, and are in charge of leading investigations. They are found mainly in moderately populated towns and act as both lead investigators and overseers when no COI's are stationed.
- Commanders or Commander Investigator (Level 16-18): There are eight commanders within the Guard, one for each of the outposts and a final one to work out of Stormholme Fortress underneath the Major General. Their primary purpose is to protect the region in which their outpost is located. They are paid 2 gp per day or 70 gp per month, are given armor and weaponry, and living quarters that they may also bring their families with them to their postings They also must wear purple tunics with the standard crest and may wear the ceremonial crest instead. They are also given time off for holidays and important dates. If they are an Investigator they are commonly called COI - followed by last name, and are in charge of keeping of investigations and run the high-profile cases. They are used in highly populated cities, with there currently only being three, one in Cyri, Seacrest, and Bearth.
- Major General (Level 19-20): This position is voted upon by the Commanders after the death or retirement of the past holder. The Major General is in charge of the entirety of the Emperors Guard and make the decisions that affect the militia as a whole. They are stationed out of Stormholme Fortress and have room and board provided for them and their family. They are paid 4 gp per day or 140 gp per month, are given armor and weaponry, and must wear tunics with the crest of the Major General at all times. Given their status in the region, they are the equivalent of nobility as far as social status and are well known throughout the Lost Empire and the surrounding region.
Culture
The guard believes that those who have chosen to live outside of the rule of the crown should be allowed to keep that freedom. That all must be responsible for their actions, and that no matter where one comes from, what station in life they hold, or who they are as a person, all people are equal.
Public Agenda
To protect the inhabitants, land, and resources of the region known as the Lost Empire. They also ensure that the laws of the respective cities and towns are upheld, and thanks to them being in multiple parts of the region they also ensure all crimes receive the appropriate punishment and that roads are safe to travel.
The guard is sanctioned to protect the citizens of the Lost Empire, both in their home states and while traveling between them, hand out mining and logging claims and enforce their implementation and the tracking of criminals via Bands of Requisition. Those who live in the region know that committing minor and mediocre offenses will lead to them wearing a Band, while anything more extreme will lead to some amount of jail time.
Minor Offenses. Crimes such as petty thievery or public nuisance are examples of minor crimes. Such crimes are punished by a Band of Requisition, a small fine, and providing community service set by the Guards. If a second minor crime is committed while the band is being worn the wearer must keep it on for half a year and pay an additional fine.
Mediocre Offenses. Crimes such as causing deliberate injury and damaging property of great importance are examples of mediocre crimes. Such crimes are first marked by having to wear a band for at minimum half a year, pay a modest fine, and take on greater services set by the Guards. If the criminal commits another crime during their requisition period it is punished by the band being kept on for an additional year and compulsory military service. Those people are most likely sent to one of the mountain outposts to help protect against potential threats.
Major Offenses. Killing someone, using band forms of magic, or committing treasonous acts against one of the cities or towns are considered examples of major crimes. Such crimes are punished by time spent in prison within one of the nearest outposts. If another crime is committed within a year after being released from prison, the criminal is sent to Stormholme Fortress.

Assets
Stormholme Fortress is the largest fort the guard holds, with it acting as the base of operations and the most secure prison for the region. They also hold eight other outposts known as Bonecross, Irongrip, Falcon, Westvault, Goldpine, Springvault, Stardew, and Eastshield. Throughout the organization, they hold a fair amount of gold due to their dealings with large debts, in each town and city they are stationed they have a main building that the soldiers work out of along with local officials and in the north, they have a handful of ships docked in Seacrest to deal with the pirates of Gold Key when they get to close.
They keep Bands of Requisition on hand for when a person has committed a crime that requires the use of the band. The Bands themselves are thin iron bracelets that are inlaid with ironwood runes allowing for them to be magically held around a person's wrist until their debt has been paid. So long as a person has a Band on they must keep it in plain sight at all times or else incur more fines, they cannot enter certain spaces ie. arcane libraries, and embassies. To ensure the Guard is well supplied with troops, each of the eight major cities has been tasked with providing a number of soldiers that account for roughly 5-10% of their populations each year. Most cities reach this through a volunteer basis, but both Cyri and Seacrest have made it mandatory.

History
Formally founded in the year 748 ACW as a mercenary guild within the region of The Lost Empire, the Emperors Guard quickly proved itself to be a formidable and reliable force within the region. As time went on the guild gained power and influence and by the year 800 ACW the City State of Cyri had begun paying the group to work out of the city and act as their unofficial military force.
Then the Voslo Empire began its campaign to take over the lower region of Corum in the Divine War. After the Kingdome of Elessar fell and Tirasea soon followed the other cities and towns within the Lost Empire approached the guild and Cyri to make a formal agreement to protect all of the denizens of the region. Cyri was at first hesitant to share the strength of the Emperors Guard but agreed in the end after an undisclosed agreement was reached between the leaders of the other respective cities.
Once an agreement was reached the cities paying both monetarily and with people came together to set up Stormeholme Fortress and the other eight outposts dotted around the region. Years continued on and wars and battles raged within the region but throughout it all the Guard stood strong, keeping the people of the Lost Empire safe.
