Affo

Affo are a gorilla-like beings. They are covered in dark brown or black fur. They predominantly walk quadrupedally on their knuckles. They are capable of upright locomotion for a limited time. Their feet possess opposable thumbs and are able to be use as dexterously as their hands. They are capable of human speech, but their voices are far deeper and rougher than most humans. Whenever possible they prefer to use Simian handspeak. Affo tend to be peaceful, calm, and shy but can exhibit savage brutality when defending themselves.

Affo are vegetarian. In their home country they fulfill their water needs by drinking morning dew. They obtain most their food foraging throughout the day as they migrate.

Despite their lack of machinery and beast-like appearance, Affo are just as intelligent as humanity. Where humans excel in their clever devices, Affo have exceptional memories.

Civilization and Culture

History

Their material culture bears similarities to their Simian neighbors. They live a nomadic lifestyle and generally prefer to travel light, relative to an Affo’s great strength, with few personal possessions beyond a few prized tools or valuable trade goods. Instead of possessions they prize tales and experiences. They eat a purely vegetarian diet and abhor the idea of eating meat. They do not eschew the use of human metals, but still find much of it not worth it’s weight.
