Vault Mark

The **Vault Mark** is the currency of the Hegemony, and is also used by many smaller powers in the universe. Also referred to as *marks* and, derisively, *bird marks*. The Vault Mark is the most common currency in the Solar System.
Vault Marks are usually tracked on small coins or gems known as **piggies** that, when squeezed, illuminate with their value (or project it into the Memescape). Each piggy has a maximum value. These piggies are quite difficult to counterfeit, though not impossible (though, generally, to a degree such that it costs more to counterfeit a piggy than can be stored on that coin).
A transaction between two people can easily be done with an agreement made in the memescape. If a piggy is pilfered, then a small amount of (legally grey) hacking can open the piggy to anybody, which usually takes a day or three.
Technically, each Vault Mark can be traced back to a debt of a different Hegemonic Vault. However, except in cases of very high-level power dealings between the Vaults, which Vault issued the Mark is irrelevant, as they are interchangeably accepted.
