Osmium

Osmium is a hard, brittle, bluish-white transition metal in the platinum group (a trait it shares with palladium). It also sounds kind of like "awesome". So it's the name of my campaign setting inspired by Palladium's mantra of "include everything awesome".

Osmium is kitchen sink pulp space fantasy set to 11. It's inspired by the aesthetics of Destiny and Mass Effect and Asgaard of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's inspired by the mentality of Warhammer 40,000 and Rifts - if it's awesome, in it goes. Internal consistency is important, but only in serving the greater goal of badass heroes doing badass things.

Earth is the center of the story, but unlike much of space opera, Earth is not the center of the universe. Galaxy spanning empires wage war across the universe, and Earth and humanity are but a backwater. For 200 years, Earth was occupied by an empire of aven and dwarves known as the Hegemony, and we have only recently reclaimed our independence. Thrust against our will onto the galactic stage, humanity must rebuild its homeworld and adjust to a new normal where we are not special.
