Wetterau - Primer

Not a single entity as implied by their unification, the various independent provinces, known as palatinates or Pfalzen, work together as a loose confederation to compete with the sheer size of the other united political bodies on Serrus. Independently, they knew that each province was vulnerable to foreign influence. In -407 AC, the leaders of the numerous provinces around the area on Serrus known as Wetterau convened together in what is now the city of Haupstadt to discuss unification of the provinces into palatinates.

The Pfalzen

The Stadts of Wetterau are split into six separate palatinates, each with its own unique features and culture. All of these regions are known collectively as the Wetterau area of Serrus. These regions are heavily wooded with numerous rivers flowing through them and add to the rustic look of Wetterau as a whole and its many timber buildings are known for their beauty throughout Serrus.   Most of the provinces agreed readily, but some did not. Those that agreed formed the Stadts of Wetterau and wrote up a set of documents outlining the responsibilities of each palatinate. The independent provinces that did not agree were slowly assimilated or conquered and absorbed into the formal body of unified palatinate. The borders are constantly under flux, and even though they are unified to a degree, this has not stopped petty squabbles over land and territorial demarcations from erupting within the palatinates themselves.   Despite the inherent differences between the palatinates and the petty squabbling over territory that can and does occur from time to time, the people of the palatinates are fiercely loyal and nationalistic when dealing with outsiders. In fact, the Hessen people of the palatinates are known to be the most patriotic and loyal people on Serrus. Given the right circumstances, the Stadts have the ability to set aside their differences to accomplish a common goal for the entirety of all the palatinates.   Unlike most of the cultures from the other political bodies on Serrus, the Hessens of the Stadts of Wetterau have their own distinct differences in culture depending on their home palatinate. No other political body on Serrus has such a well defined reputation as the individual palatinate s within Wetterau. Most Hessens are loyal to their home palatinate first, and then to the entire Stadts of Wetterau second.
The Hessans have the manpower than no other country can rival. Good thing they are too busy fighting and bickering with each other to be any real threat to Serrus.
