Frisian Fey

The people of Frisia have Fey that mainly associate themselves with bodies of water or coinage. Because of this, a few coins of any trade revenue is usually tossed into the woods or body of water to appease these Fey. Many foreign individuals that are not inclined to follow these practices while in Frisia are known to come to a short and brutal end or the loss of trade goods. People travelling in Frisia are wise to not pick up a stray coin found in a woods or underwater in case it is a donation and offering to one of the various Fey inhabiting the area.

Poulyj

The Poulyj is a type of malevolent murderous Fey. They inhabit ruined buildings found on popular trade routes. Poulyj are said to murder travelers who stray in or near their homes and dye their clothes with their victims' blood unless a coin offering is thrown to them. Indeed, redcaps must kill regularly, for if the blood staining their clothes dries out, they die. No one knows why they are placated by coin, and some claim that this is another way to give the spirit sustenance and prevent its death. Poulyj are very fast in spite of the heavy iron pikes they wield and the iron-shod boots they wear. Outrunning the buck-toothed little daemons is quite impossible; the only way to escape one is to quote an Ametrian passage or psalm. They lose a tooth on hearing it, which they stop to find and replace.

Roerkin

These are commonly referred to by Frisian sailors as Water Sprites. They can take several forms, the most common of which is a beautiful nude female found swimming and singing in the water alongside a ship. They are initially friendly, offering a song to soothe the sailors on a long voyage. They expect a coin offering in return that they will not ask for, but not giving this offering will cause the Roerkin to become aggressive.   They have the power over storms and creatures of the deep and will not hesitate to use these against a ship that fails to offer the proper coinage after a song. They are also adept at mesmerizing sailors with their beauty and can lure them into the water where they will drown.
