Librarius

Librarius was a major political party formed in the mid 26th century

Origins

Librarius was formed in 2550 after a merger was agreed between the Libratum and Laicite political parties.

• Libratum - a broad-tent party formed with a goal of bringing together religous groups, secularists and AIs. It had struggled to resonate in a packed centre-left political lane
• Laicite - a centre-left political party founded as a purely secularist party. Its goal was to end what it saw as the dangerous influence of religion on Republican politics

The new party saw all members in the GA and the Senate agree to work under the new party platform and banner.

Principles

• Freedoms: We support the right to free speech, freedom of movement, and freedom of religious practice.
• Economic: We support a welfare policy targeting the most vulnerable; improving living conditions benefits the freedoms of all. We support a competitive free market economy with limits on monopolies.
• Military: We support moderate military spending.
• Democracy: We support government transparency.
• Religion: We support secular government but we also support the right of all people to have and practice a religion. We believe that an individual with religious beliefs has the right to hold political office but that this must not be used as an avenue to impose their beliefs upon others. We encourage healthy discussion of beliefs amongst religious and secular peoples.
• Diplomacy: We support pursuing positive relations with alien polities.
• Law: We support the rule of law.

Organization

Libratum was initially founded with a central "Federal" executive committee. The membership of the committee consisted of an elected chairman, nine committee members who'd serve on a five year basis and then be "rotated" out of the committee and an appointed Chief of Staff, who'd work directly for the committee

Electoral Performance

Librarius ran for election in 2560 for the first time. The party selected Governor Galen Drayfuss as their nominee after their convention. He defeated Governor Roswell Sutter of New Carthage to clinch the party's nomination.
Governor Drayfuss selected Rep Botley Harrow as his running mate. Librarius agreed a joint list with Gurava
