Marked, not in the literal sense yet in the books of accountants shopkeepers and the military compounds.
Being marked for expeditions will get the higher ups to praise you as being a “pioneer” or a brave “explorer” even a “pathfinder”.
However like every commoner learns from a young age it is merely a way of population control that might gain some riches in return.
It’s not unusual that the urchins of the streets, plagued sick elderly or orphaned children to be sent away to be “pioneers”. To never return.
The job of those Marked in description is to explore a vast amount of ruins and abandoned kingdoms and obtain artifacts of old to try and understand what has caused the world to be what it is now.


At first the fresh Marked who do manage to come back get inspected thoroughly for whatever they have and get most of it taken for “research”
Yet some who bring profits repeatedly get noticed by the military forces and get better privileges or promotions.
Allowing them both to keep their loot and even learn about special locations. Some rarely volunteer to join the expeditions seeking glory and riches but those who do tend to thrive.
