Jax Jenova

"I've seen worse in my day, just give me a hot minute to run a bypass and jury rig an override and she'll stay together for now, just don't expect it to hold up long term, I'm good at what I do, but I'm no magician."
A former Neo H affiliated freelancer onboard the Scarlet Gem, Jax found himself in a relationship with Jasmine years ago after an unfortunate series of events left him stranded on the NEB border colony Xeres, where he made a living working as a shadow mechanic at various starports. Using his neural drone uplink to remote pilot series Sigma Six worker drone Jax is able to perform similar engineering duties as more his anthropomorphic crewmates, without needing to worry about many of the associated environmental and working hazards that hinder those doing so in person.

History

How they met in their own words:     Jasmine: "Well, I ran into Jax back when I was still at the Academy, my brother and me were on weekend leave after passing our basic flight exam, and we'd heard a transport from Neo H had set down outside the city on one of the farmsteads, not at all unusual when they have farming equipment or other supplies to drop off in the local area, saves hauling it from the star port.   We'd heard through the rumor mill the Jo Lynn had a reputation for carrying a few extras on board when they made their delivery runs, Neo H vid chips, off world alcohol and clothing, stuff you'd pay through the nose in tax and tariffs for if you tried to buy it through official channels, the stuff that wasn't outright illegal to own anyway.   So, my brother and me and a few of the other cadets borrowed a couple cargo trucks and ACE's to man the wheels and drove out there, took us half the night to get there, and by then we were all pretty tired and half drunk, and found the ship was parked in a field, and there was this party going down right outside its hangar bay, about forty or fifty locals, living it up, loud music, dancing, even a bonfire."   Jax: "We'd offer free samples of our finest drinks to anyone that dropped by, funny how much looser people are with their cred sticks once they have a few shots of Merulican Brandy or Iso Scalene in them."   Jasmine: "Right, so we roll up and join the party, no different than the same type of shindig they throw every time they're planetside with a delivery, and my brother met some girl from the ship, they hit off and he disappears."   Jax: "That was Erica, she has a soft spot for men in uniform." He adds with a wink.   Jasmine: "Well we'd only been there for about two hours, and the light of first dawn was brightening the horizon and we see a formation of drop ships on the horizon, about twenty seconds before they're on top of us, A NEB patrol, seems they followed the gps trackers in the trucks we borrowed and noticed they were parked near an off world vessel and were convinced we were selling NEB military secrets to Neo H spies.   Jasmine: "They land and start dumping out standard security ACE's who are trying to round up everyone in the area, drunken locals, us, the crew of the JoLynn, and somewhere in the mix someone gets to their ride, a large farm truck and drives over a few of the ACE's while they make a run for it, a few of their buddies in back throwing boxes of contraband over the sides as they tear off into the dark.   In the middle of this Chaos the JoLynn is hot jumping its engines and starting to lift off, the engine wash sending the flesh and blood NEB captain and his lackeys who were ordering around the ACE's flying off into the dirt and making this even more chaotic. I'm trying to keep my head down, and find somewhere to avoid notice, when this dog yells, right in my ear, to follow him, he's got a plan to get us out of this mess."   Jax: "It was more of a desperate hope than a plan," He says with a flick of his ears.   Jasmine: "He leads me right up the ramp of the closest drop ship, paws the ramp close button and yells to me to strap us into the cockpit," She shakes her head at the memory.   "I'm trying to explain to him I'm barely qualified to fly it, and stealing the ship will just get us in even more trouble, and yells at me flying isn't the plan and to trust him.   By this point some of the ACE's outside are starting to shoot people with their stutter rifles, and someone's got the commander in a head lock and is trying to wrestle him to the ground, and I figure whatever his plan it's better than going back outside."   Jax: "I knew if I told her the plan she'd never agree to it." He adds with a lop tongued grin.   Jasmine: "So I finish strapping myself into the cockpit, and securing him in the copilots seat, and as I'm starting to do a preflight check he reaches up, grabs the eject handle in his jaws and yanks back on it."   Jax: "Hey, it worked didn't it?"   Jasmine: "So we were launched a few hundred feet into the sky and jetting forward, the breaking thrusters and chutes dumping us in a field about 4 clicks away."   Jax: "Exactly as planned." He adds, leaning against her happily.   Jasmine: *Continuing to scratch behind his ears while she talks* "We manage to get out of the harnesses just in time to see the JoLynn rocketing over head and into orbit, leaving Jax here stranded dirt side, and both us mostly drunk in some guys crop field next to the smoking evidence of our escape."   Jax: "Hey now,I was sober, you were the drunk one." He bobs his head in a shrug. "What? You think I could have pulled that off if I wasn't sober?"   Jasmine: "The dropship exploded after we ejected of course, which helped add to the chaos and cover our escape. I wound up having to give the farmer nearly a full months pay for him to drive us back to the city, and another two months pay to the quartermaster pull some strings and get Jax added to my file as an approved basic pet."   Jax: "Having to play the role of a dumb house pet was not fun, did you know those NEB neanderthals still take an animal's temperature with a thermometer up their rear?"   Jasmine: *Giggling.* "That wasn't the end of it though, my brother was on board the Jolynn when it lifted off, and he was the one I was sharing quarters with, and without him around Jax and me got to know one another more closely over the intervening weeks."   Jax: "She was the only person I could talk to on the planet pretty much, so we got to know one another quite well."   Jasmine: *Blushing at the commentary.* "So um, anyway, my brother spent six weeks on the JoLynn while they ducked NEB patrols and hid out in Neo H space until they could safely change their I.F.F and make a return trip as some other ship, the Crimson Jewel I think?"   Jax: "Scarlet Jewel." He clarifies with a nod.     Jasmine: "They gave him a stolen shuttle to use when they returned to the system a few weeks later, and he crashed landed it in the middle of the city and had an exciting tale of how he got kidnapped by pirates who wanted to interrogate him for NEB access codes and barely managed to escape with his life. He was able to tell his story to the press after his crash landing before the NEB military got a hold of him again.   They knew it was B.S and he was joy riding with a bunch of freebooters, but the story had caught on big with the public and he was seen as a hero, so they ran with it, made him the poster child of NEB heroism, got him fast tracked to a captains chair, and a room of his own; which was good, because by then, Jax and me were... Very close." She gives him an affectionate smile.   Jax: "His crash landing left him with enough injuries to look suitably dramatic."   Jasmine: "Inertial dampeners failed when he was bringing the shuttle in, a few NEB AA batteries opened up on the shuttle and he barely made it to the ground in one piece, had a broken collar bone and some other injuries to show for it.   As his sister I rode the coattails of his fame, and had a posting on a patrol ship shortly out of the academy, my brothers experience on the rim with the crew of the JoLynn gave him a bit of a jump start on ship board life, helped him rise through the ranks faster.   With me being on deployment I couldn't take Jax with me, NEB ships are pretty hard and fast about letting crew have pets, aside from the captain or an officer, and the Orion's sec officer Nina had Luna already. So I left Jax dirt side with one of his closest friends Claire, who kept him company while I was on deployment."   Jax: "She used to be on the Jolynn, stayed behind to keep my company after we ran into them again and joined the colony, she calls this place her retirement home."   Jasmine: "So anyway, that's how we met, and how Jax came to be a part of my life. There was no way the NEB would allow us to be in a relationship of course, as far as they knew he was just a basic canine, they assumed Claire and me were in a relationship together after she moved in, and I wasn't about to tell them any different."   Jax: "We had a small ceremony on board the Jewel a few years back when she had shore leave, it wasn't much but counted, at least to us."
