Personal history
Janus was the son of middle class merchant residing in the city of Grunga. His early childhood was unremarkable and did not deviate from what is expected of someone of his station. In his early teens he apprehended a thief after they fled the scene of a pickpocket, pursuing him through the streets of Grunga for over an hour before finding him and retrieving the coin purse. When he returned the purse to the victim of the crime, a nobleman who witnessed the event pulled him aside and offered Janus a position as a squire on his retinue.
After commencing his training, Janus was quickly identified as a quick learner and a naturally talented swordsman, eventually earning him a place on the personal retinue of King Mikhail III Obolensky upon earning his knighthood. In service to King Mikhail, Janus distinguished himself in skirmishes with local bandit clans, earning him renown with many among Grungan high society viewing him as a rising prospect. Unfortunately his promising career was cut short during the Annexation of Grunga, where he was killed defending the King from Reichguard soldiers, with legends circulating post the occupation that Sir Janus cut down half a dozen Reichguard knights before being slain.
