Elven Creationism

In the beginning, there was nothing but darkness. A whisper stirred in the void, a silent song giving birth to the creators. The music moulded them, shaping them into the forms that they are recognised as by mortals today. The first was Halenth, Lord of Wisdom, gifted with the ability to guide the others of his kind. Lorinth, Lady of Knowledge, followed him. She was gifted with inconceivable knowledge, resulting in her appointment as matron of the material world. Halenth and Lorinth set about shaping their realm, populating the void.   They began by creating fire. A blaze filled the void, lighting the creators realm. Halenth and Lorinth used their powers to mould the flame, condensing into a ball of light and warmth to serve as a beacon of hope in their realm. Embers broke of from the flame to spread light across the endless void. Lorinth consolidated her power into the largest of these embers to form the moon, whilst Halenth spread his power throughout the realm to fuel the endless number of embers populating their realm. Halenth and Lorinth then combined their power to give birth to the shimmering jewel of their realm. The creators rejoiced as they looked upon their creation. Over time however, they began to feel as if their realm was but a shell of what it could be, and sung to the void to beg for guidance. The void responded, a soft note echoing throughout the realm, giving birth to a third creator. Harlak, Lord of Mortality.   Halenth and Lorinth greeted their new companion, showing him the realm they had created. Harlak responded by asking why the lands were devoid of creatures such as themselves. Harlak used the power vested in him to populate the realm with life, creating bird and beast. Unsatisfied, Harlak also populated the sea, turning the world into a haven of life. Halenth and Lorin rejoiced as they looked upon the new life of the world, and begged Harlak to create a creature in their image. In response, Harlak created the Elves.   Halenth and Lorinth looked upon their brother's creation with joy, bestowing the gift of their attributes upon them. Halenth granted them the gift of wisdom, giving the elves sentience. Lorin gave them a taste of her infinite knowledge, granting them knowledge of the material world. The elves divided into to two groups. The followers of Halenth dedicated themselves to achieving harmony with the world in which they resided in. The followers of Lorin dedicated themselves to achieving an understanding of their home. Harlak however, was barred from influencing his creation, his brother and sister viewing him as but a tool to enhance their realm. Harlak began to grow jealous, furious that his siblings stole his creation from him.   In response, Harlak manifested himself into the physical realm and made contact with his creation. In them, he bestowed his own teachings, planting the seeds of ambition, greed and lust. These new traits quickly manifested themselves in the elves, fuelling their existence. Before long, the jealousy and ambition that Harlak passed on to his children became overpowering. The two sects came into conflict, using the wisdom and knowledge given to them to craft weapons of war to enforce their will upon each other. Halenth and Lorinth were infuriated, angrily confronting Harlak for corrupting their creation. Halenth and Lorinth used their influence over the elves to compel them to march on the land that Harlak had claimed in the physical realm. When they arrived, Harlak used his power to corrupt them, utterly destroying the traits gifted to them by his siblings, creating the Harlish. A third sect to obey his command.   Harlak led his people across the land, intent on exacting vengeance on his siblings for their arrogance and selfishness. Cities were burnt to the ground, the followers of Halenth and Lorinth slaughtered by Harlak and his soldiers. Halenth and Lorinth despaired as their creation was ravaged by war, calling upon the void for aid. The void answered, a note echoing through the realm, giving birth to a new creation upon the world. Humans.   Halenth and Lorinth once again passed their teachings down, teaching the new race of wisdom and knowledge. However, the void also took part in shaping man, bestowing its own traits upon them. Courage, compassion and love. Mankind utilised its bravery and knowledge to fight back against Harlak, these traits culminating to produce masters of warfare. The warriors of mankind drove Harlak's horde back into his lands. After years of conflict, the armies of man laid siege to Harlak's citadel, a vast fortress in which Harlak had consolidated his power.   Harlak watched from the highest tower of his home as his followers were massacred, the forces of man laying waste to his citadel. Halenth and Lorin manifested themselves in the material world, confronting Harlak in his tower. The creators fought for days as their creations clashed in the streets below them. Finally, Halenth and Lorinth cast Harlak down, using their power to banish him to the void. Harlak's citadel was torn to pieces, as the Lord of Mortality's power faded. Harlak's surviving followers looked upon this with despair, fleeing their homes and into the wilderness. As Harlak vanished from the world, his dwindling power ravaged his war torn lands, stripping it of life and reducing it to a barren wasteland. Harlak was defeated.   This defeat was not without a cost, however. Scarred by the effects of war, mankind was corrupted, the teachings of Harlak manifesting themselves in the survivors souls. Mankind returned to the lands of the followers of Halenth and Lorinth. The elves looked upon man with fear, seeing them as a threat to their power. As mankind's numbers had been decimated by the war, the elves quickly overwhelmed them, enslaving them.
