The Shepard
The Shepard is The External responsible for the protection and care of animals.
Many would expect that The Shepard would be a solitary figure like The Gardener, someone who resides in the deep of nature, never interacting with civilisation. According to rumour however, The Shepard wanders the world, finding unique or endangered animals, and travels with them, finding them new homes and carers.
The Shepard is unique among the Externals in that he mostly trusts that his domain will care for itself. As long as The Gardener keeps up his job, The Shepard's is functionally non existent. He watches out for those who commit great cruelty, or for strange rituals involving the mass slaughter of animals and beasts, but for the most part, he reasons that his domain takes care of itself.
For this reason many have no idea who The Shepard could be, only that he relates to animals. Some say he is a menagerie owner in one of The Free Cities of Yeran, protecting endangered creatures from the harsh climate. Others claim he could be a traveling merchant such as Kasmid the Animal Friend, selling rare creatures to those who he feels deserve them. Many suggest that he could just be a simple rancher anywhere in the world, caring for his beasts of burden.
Regardless of who or what The Shepard is, he is likely to remain in that role, trusting in the natural order of things to keep his domain safe, only breaking routine for something that would cause massive levels of harm to his creatures.
