Milaines Juliant II
Milaines Juliant II, better known as Milaines the Kind, was one of the better Emperors of The Dawn Empire.
Milaines inherited a lot of problems from his father, Lanien Juliant I, primarily his numerous bastards and the issues this caused in terms of succession. Only a year into his reign, the Empire was plunged into civil war and open revolt in The First Stormcharger Rebellion.
Milaines was seen as a weak and potentially volatile Emperor early into his reign, and so he had to work hard to fight against this perception, and fight against half of his Empire who would rather let Damien Stormcharger rule.
Milaines would eventually defeat the upstart Dukes and his half-brother, conquering the Duchies of Maubrin, The Fourteenth and Galhill, The Fifteenth in the process. Milaines would show his mercy to those who rebelled against him, pardoning all those who rebelled and welcoming the son of Damien into his own home as a ward. He published a letter addressed to the entire Empire, the first time an Emperor had spoken to all his subjects in near five hundred years. The letter addressed concerns among the nobility and peasantry, addressing the failures of his father and grandfather and promising to do better, and do better his did.
Milaines ruled for the next 40 years in seemingly total peace, naïve to the plotting and scheming going on behind his back, the undeserved punishment for his mercy.
He ruled from 479-525 PS.
