Imperial Bore Spear

The Bore Spear is a specialized weapon used by the Culling Legion of the Keratos Empire when dealing with particularily girthy Fiends. Designed to pierce through the toughest hides through devastating charges or ambushes, it is often veteran hunters who can manage this powerful implement.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Metal Tips: The hardened an short tip is dug into the haft, it maximizes penetration and robustness against thick hides and scales, embedding deeply to cause internal damage. Strength Handles: One or more boughs of wood protrude perpendicularly to the Handle's shaft for greater control and leverage during thrusting, mimicking techniques used in jousting. The spear can be held on the aft or using one or more branches. They also allow for close-quarters defense against scraping close to monsters. Breakaway Haft: The wooden haft detaches or snaps off from the Handle upon impact, leaving the embedded tip inside the creature to inflict lasting damage while preventing the weapon from being torn away. Modular Replacement System: The tonfa handles feature a locking mechanism for securing new hafts, enabling rapid rearming without replacing the entire weapon, ideal for drawn-out battles.

History

The origin of Imperial Bore Spears is said to come from the Jousting knights seen in the Eastern Realms. Accustomed to the momentum jousting matches, Imperials and Easternites both realized that such power could penetrate tough monsters. While Humans adapted their own versions of cavalry lances for hunting monstrous creatures, the Demonic Bore Spears evolved taking the strong physic of Demons into account, making it versatile for foot combat, leaps, charges, any situation. Its modular design emerged from the attrition factor of hunts, making prolonged engagements without sacrificing effectiveness. A rather modern weapon by Orbidian standards, the Bore Spear is nonetheless two centuries old and its design keeps on improving as successful hunts mount and leeway is given to experiment.

Significance

A proof of Demonic ingenuity and of its Empire's habit of making replaceable weapon parts on the fly, the Bore Spear packs an uncontested punch. It rarely sees use outside of battle with beasts, but seeing an Archdemon skewer three Knights in a row with a single charge is a sight not soon forgotten.
