The challenge of Crom

The party, having learned of a supposed Demi-God living atop Ben Morgh, begins their slow ascent. On the southern side of the mountain, you see a pathway in the foothills curving up and away to the left as it moves upwards.   ::follow the path upwards::   You see scattered pines and dandelions as you traverse thru the foothills.   ::following further up: :   The trees grow denser around you as you continue to follow the path upward. The tree lined path gets more and more encroaching as you ascend.   ::further now::   The trees give way here and you can sew the open sky above. The top of the mountain still looks impossibly high from here   Dc10 stealth check If fail encounter 2x harpies   ::You move on and the trees grow clustered once again but there is a clear sky above you::   ::Stealth Check with Advantage::   You see a gigantic Bird the size of a dragon Swoop overhead just above the trees. It picked something off further up the mountain. Whatever it nabbed it was large.   ::Continuing onwards and upwards::     ::Perception check vs. Stone Giants stealth check to see him::   You see this particular side of the mountain is a bit odd looking. The longer you stare at it, the more it seems to be... breathing? moving?   Suddenly this Gigantic humanoid figure breaks away from the mountainside, his skin seems to be made of stone and blending in. He lets out a huge yawn and stretches his stone arms and begins lumbering down the mountain - right in your pathway!   ::Dex Check of 10 to avoid being trampled   You eventually clear the trees and are walking along the open mountain path. The top of the mountain is within sight now as you look up. You continue forward a few hundred feet and the path wraps around and you find yourself on some sort of flat summit. The peak still lies above you but you are on solid flat ground for a moment. And you are not alone.   Just ahead you see a crowd of onlookers cheering and yelling at something happening beyond. The Crowd is made up on all different races including some not often seen in the country of Auldsod. Peering further you see they are surrounding a flat man-made stone floor whereupon two armed combatants are fighting a ferocious battle with one another. Their weapons clang loudly in the distance as the crowd looks on and cheers for blood. All around this area you see scattered tents and huts and yurts emblazoned with different symbols, crests, and flags of a huge variety.   What are you guys doing?   A gentleman at the back of the crowd turns around and notices you. He is a stout looking White bearded Goliath adorned in aged leather armor and a greatsword slung at his back. He towers above all of you.   Craghorn: "Ahhh. New Faces. You look strong! Are you here to compete for his glory?   For the glory of Crom! We fight to please him and earn his favor. that he may bestow blessings upon us.   Crom is a god. Our god. But he is as real as you or I.   We have seen him. Here on the mountain. He dwells in solitude at the highest peak. But he does not deem to speak with just anyone. Only ones who have proven themselves worthy. That is why we battle here. To see which among us is truly worthy of Crom's blessing.   ::ahead in the crowd you see the fighters, one of them expertly disarms the other with a flourish and that fighter falls to his knees with his hands up claiming defeat. The armed fighter grabs. His arms and brings him to his feet. The defeated fighter exits the circle with his head hung in shame. The crowd starts chanting "weak, weak, weK" as the winner raises his arms in triumph. "If you think you are worthy. Choose your best fighter to step forth and earn the glory! "   :: who will you choose::   C:"a new challenger seeks the blessing of Crom!"   The fighter in the ring gives a small bow as you enter. He is dressed in a full heavy Plate Armor. He raises his greatsword up into position and plants his feet firmly in the ground.   :: encounter vs knight::   After 15 hp knight surrenders He gives you an honorable gesture and leaves the zone. Then a new challenger steps forward ((Party may take the time between rounds to heal their fighter or aid him in any other way)) The Next challenger steps forward. She is a half elf woman with black hair. She takes the fur coat she is wearing off as she steps into the circle. She seems to be completely unarmed underneath, only wearing baggy, loose fitting clothing. Her hands are wrapped in some type of gauze or bandages. she slicks her short hair back and unties a headband wrapped around her head, stuffing it into a pocket. She gives you a bow and clenches her fists standing at the ready.   ::encounter vs martial arts adept:: She surrenders at low hp   A dangerous and desperate looking orc criminal type enters and smiles at you with yellowing teeth. It circles around you as it draws its greataxe.   ::encounter vs. Orc war chief::   The war chief fights to the death   After you stand over the orcs bloody corpse,   Another person enters the arena. She is in a full leather armor armed with a spear, she intensely stares at you for what seems like an eternity. Suddenly her other hand flies up in front of her as she flicks something at you. It lands at your feet with a clink. It is a silver coin. You start hearing more clinks all around you as you see a shower of silver coins hit the floor from the surrounding fighter's hands. Cheers erupt from all around as Craghorn approaches you and shakes your hand. " That was an impressive display friend. If that does not mark you as worthy i don't know what does. For crom has given us this freedom to go where we want, be who we wish, fuck who we please and fight till we die. Some of us live short, miserable lives, but we are free. Crom does not care if we are good, or bad. Crom only values strength and valor. Whatever you have done in your life has meant nothing up until this point. This moment where one stood against many and lived. Present this to Crom and he just may find you worthy of speaking to."   At that moment, a dark haired human woman in furs presents you with an ornate great axe   "He is at the peak of the mountain. Go and speak with him"   ::travel another half mile up: : The wind is howling and whipping thru you. Snow is starting to fall heavily on the mountain side. Your clothing and hair is beginning to turn white as you catch the white powdery flakes There is a healthy winter in this part of the world. You are familiar with that. But this seems... stronger, more intense. ::dc 10 con save:: one point of exhaustion on fail   You reach a sheer cliff wall about 7ft tall that seems to be the final hurdle to reach the top. But it is too steep to walk. It now has to be climbed. ::DC15 Acrobatics or Athletics Check to reach the top unassisted::
::DC 10 if you use grappling hook or rope::
::DC10 Strength Check to pull up allies::

After a tough slog, you finally reach the top. You are on a flat plateau at the literal top of the world. Strangely the snow and wind continues its onslaught but you can see through the torrential weather. It appears to be some sort of superficial storm that is wholly centered on the mountain top itself. Just past the storm, looking through, you can see the breathtaking views. The glorious landscape stretching off for miles. You can make out the Sylvaneth Forest and Battle grove to the North And to the south you can see The Hopeful Harbor and a gigantic city off in the distance. (Mount Cashell)   Suddenly you hear large footsteps approaching you. From out of the fog of the snow storm steps this gigantic grey skinned humanoid figure. He stands about 15 feet tall and He is lightly armored in leather and scale and a gigantic maul sits at his side.   "Another tiresome group of mortals come to lick my boots. Get lost will ya? Can't you see I'm busy?"   If handed the Greataxe:   "Ohh. That's nice (Sarcastically)" Then you watch as he - with zero effort - tosses the great axe behind his back like it were a toothpick it flies off edge of the mountain peak and falls down to the plateau below with the worshippers.     You peer over as it has embedded itself in the stone floor below. The warriors down there look at it in amazement and you hear an eruption of cheers from beaneath accompanied by chants of "Crom Crom Crom Crom"   "*sigh* What can I do for you tourists?"   "ughh. I'm so tired of this! You know Crom is dead right? I'm not Crom. Crom was an extraordinary figure who lived thousands of years ago and brought smithing to these lands. He lived for a few decades, never had kids and died of old age. But these fools elevated him to Godhood in those intervening years. Think he's the patron of strength and war. Meanwhile I come down here to find some peace and quiet. A few millenia of Isolation to clear my head. But then I find some maggot wandering the mountains and he proclaims that I must be Crom because this is his mountain. blah blah blah. I try to explain who I am and he hears none of it. Just starts dancing and groveling and "oooohhh Crom. You have appeared to me". And ever since then more and more followers have been coming here disturbing my peace! It's so frustrating! I should have killed that guy when I had the chance.   All I want is to be left alone!   You want me to help you break stuff. I need a favor from you. Get rid of those pesky invaders down there. Use your wits. talk them down, Scare them away, Kill them if you have to. But make them scarce and I'll destroy one of the items you have in your possession.   How to get rid of the followers? There are about 15 of them   Possible Ways   ::DC20 Intimidation Check - all but three of them are unaffected::   :::DC18 Persuasion Check on leader to convince him to leave::   ::DC15 Deception Check to clear half followers::   ::Fighting off several members of the congregation::   If you succeed...

He takes ((the item)) in his hands. Looks it over for a moment then whips it to the ground hard. it hits the floor cracking the stonework beneath it. Then you watch as he takes this great maul in his hands and swings it wildly over his head and brings it down with a thunderous *Smash*. The item surprisingly shows a big crack in it. He takes another swing and this time a deafening crack is heard as the item smashes into thousands of different pieces. A dark aura emanates from the wreckage. It seems to have sentience and lets out this sickening squeal   ::DC 10 Constitution save or take 5d8 Psychic Damage:: It dissipates like vapor and is no seen no more

Ah You're welcome don't mention it.   Now for the next one.   A Couple of Trolls are infesting a cave somewhere below on the mountain side. The Shrieks of the animals and humanoids they devour can be heard all the way up here. It is annoying to no end. Put a stop to them so I can get some peace and quiet up here.
