Session 27: When Last We Met - 2/27/23

General Summary

When last we met, the cliff babies found themselves within a lair purported to belong to a legendary wizard named Mordenkainen. The party hesitantly enters the sanctum, weary of traps and dangers ahead. Sure enough the first room they search contains several magic items including a sphere of annihilation. An item that can obliterate anything that passes through it, Excluding artifacts as the party figured out quickly. 
Sensing this isn't the thing that will destroy Tharizdun's chain, they split up and search throughout the sanctum. As they explore, they begin finding notes and scribblings about a creature called Magusbane as well as something.... Larger.... older... more powerful, captured and restrained somewhere deeper in the sanctum. 
The party comes to a locked door and Tensi uses the chime of opening to breach the barrier. Beyond that door, they find a room devoid of gravity as it seems to hold a permanent portal to the Astral Sea and at the Threshold stands a gargantuan titan of primeval lore. An Astral Dreadnought bound and restrained by platinum chains. 
Based on the writings they found, plus Maleeka's scant knowledge of the thing, they discern that its eye produces an anti-magic field in which magical items are rendered inert, And that it's jaws can crush literally anything. With this knowledge, The party investigates to figure out how to open the maw of the behemoth. They find 2 levers in the center of the room and discern which one will control the jaws of the creature and which will set it free. Pulling the appropriate lever, Tensi wrenches its jaw open and Vandread drapes the armor of Tharizdun along its 2 foot long Teeth. 
After several Chomps, The armor is destroyed with another pulse of psychic energy which damages the party slightly.  Their other writings they found hinted that the only way out of this Archive was through the gullet of the Dreadnought. The party grapples with the existential terror of that thought. And that's where we will pick up next time!
