Session 17 - When Last We Met - 12/6/22

General Summary

When last we met, the party had slept the night within the Summer Court of the Feywild. Their dreams were haunted by some figure obscured by darkness. They awoke to find the trees they had hammocked in were actually alive and carrying the party back to the Summer Court. 
There, they are told that they will be given access to a person known as "The Keeper of the Forgotten" who is holding the 333 gems of Tharizdun - among many other powerful ancient artifacts. The party descends hundreds of feet below the summer court and find themselves in some deep sanctum. There they meet an unassuming gentleman and relay their need of the Gems. After a few exchanged words (And a note from the queen herself) he agrees to hand them over. He rubs his hands together in a circle, this action seeming to materialize a great wheel in the center of the chamber. Each spoke of the wheel has a different item wedged into it. He seems to bring the wheel to a stop bringing a chest set to contain the gems into view. The chest is embossed with a ram horned skull with the jagged Spiral symbol - known to be the symbol of Tharizdun - etched into the forehead. The Keeper picks it up and begins walking it over to them, When suddenly an explosive portal opens up in his path, sending him careening dozens of feet away as the chest itself goes flying out of his hands. 
Out of the portal steps a human elderly male with white hair and red robes. The party attempts to subdue him and question him, but he escapes their grasp using a dimension door spell. At that moment two Demonic figures emerge from the portal and a battle ensues. The demons engage the party in combat while the elderly man lifts up the box and seems to be attempting to return to the portal he emerged from. 
The party seeing this action, focuses some of their firepower on him, launching arrow, bolt, and spell. each successful hit knocking loose some of the reddish dark purple gems from within and spilling them onto the floor. 
As the battle rages on, D'unahzaal, The Keeper of the Forgotten, awakens from the shock and awe of the explosion and reveals his true form: That of an ancient gold dragon!
And that's where we pick up next time.
