Session 111: When Last We Met 1/12/25
General Summary
When last we met, The party had been ambushed by fairy lights on the Whispering pond that turned out to be Will-o-Wisps. They proceeded to phase in and out of reality while attacking the party.
The party for their part got into gear and attacked these things. Small and annoying as they may be. They eventually destroy all but one of these wisps who then turns invisible and flees into the forest - visible only to Romaia with the help of her crystal ball granting true sight.
From there, the party heals up some of their more battered comrades and returns to the road where they continue on for a few more miles, encountering more hallmarks of Hagswood - Pitfalls, Dead bodies hanging from trees, Buckets of finger toes and a stranger sight that catches their eye. Just off the road in some abandoned village, Mistral spies three giants intently concentrating on a game of chess. The party take some time to figure out if they want to parley with this group or straight out attack them. Eventually Celeste, Mistral and Vandread decide to venture closer to see what's what.
Vandread attempts to cast message on one of the giants but gets no response or even any body motion to indicated it heard his message. He then slinks forward and upon a closer inspection, it appears all three of these giants have been dead for quite sometime. Frozen for untold years in this strange tableau. Vandread proceeds to set fire to the bodies to give them some consecration and peace.
With night fully upon them, the party decide to take rest and refuge in one of the nearby homesteads. Having some semblance of shelter brings a bit of peace to the party, and having a fully in tact fireplace sends vandread out onto the grounds looking for firewood. He gathers up logs, branches and tinder to bring inside and upon further investigation, finds a skeletal corpse with it's eyes and mouth filled with dirt. It's hand still clutching an axe that is embedded into a tree. Thanking his lucky stars this isn't how he decided to gather the wood, He removes the axe and proceeds to break off the axe head and bring the handle in as even more firewood.
Having lit a nice fire, the party gather on the hard wood floor and take their rest near it. After a few hours of darkness, Mistral and Romaia hear the sounds of the forest go silent and footsteps approaching their cabin. Mistral looks out to find Nyarlathotep, The crawling chaos walking toward them. He proceeds to say hello and Nyarlathotep chides the party for this diversion as he calls it from their main duty of stopping the King in Yellow.
The rest of the party join the conversation at this point and proceed to chastise The Crawling Chaos for neither helping the party nor trying to stop the King in Yellow himself. He relays that no matter who comes out victorious in this, Nyarlathotep will remain to see the outcome. He just wants a good story, And epic confrontation. A world shattering cataclysm.
In response to questions asking him to take the party to their next destination so they may get on with it, Nyarlathotep refuses and instead challenges the party to try and test their mettle against him. They agree and meet on the forest path outside the homestead where Nyarlathotep reveals his true cosmic form and a battle is about to take place.
