Laulu (Rune Song Magic)
The people of the Wildrim Islands understand an ancient and powerful magic: Rune Singing. They were taught this magic by a long forgotten race of Elves. Through the power of music (much like a Bard), the Rune Singer can channel their abilities and create spells and spell effects. They have the choice to cast these spells as rituals.
Powerful members of the village use a rune stone as their arcane focus. They spend their time studying and understanding the sacred names and sing these names into their rune stone to perform their magic feats. The more powerful Rune Singers know more runes thus have a larger selection of spells at their disposal.
Players who undertake the ability to Rune Sing must have at least a 12 in either Wisdom or Constitution scores to understand the complexities of the magic, And be able to carry a tune effectively.
Players learn a new secret language (Runic) That they can read and speak. They must also secure their own Rune Stone, a smooth white stone roughly the size of a baseball. With their lack of experience with Rune Singing, the players lack control over the spells and thus can only cast spells at random. Roll a D20 and consult the below chart.
The level of spell corresponds to the spell slot used by the player unless cast as a ritual.
By dedicating a cumulative 24 hours of quiet reflection and meditation, studying the intricacies of the melodies and their meanings, a player can commit some of these rune songs to memory and be able to cast them as a spell as long as they are able to cast spells of that level or higher. The spells do not require material components (Unless they have a gold price attached to them). The spells with the ritual tag have the option of being cast as a ritual without sacrificing a spell slot.
New spells can be learned by studying under a master rune singer for 2-4 weeks.
