Jisuki (Jee-soo-ki)

A race somewhat described as fox-like, or akin to folklore Kitsune. They are very vulpine in form, with magical properties. They've come from the homeworld of Limrus. They possess powers and auras that extent and radiate off their tail(s), and can generate magic around themselves to harness in different ways. They're a very swift and quick thinking race, but not necessarily always intelligent. The idea of cunning over smart would be good to apply. While capable of advanced technology and thinking, a large majority are more likely down to very pragmatic ideas and more cathartic rule bending or crimes. They tend to love pranks, drinking, games, challenges, and short puzzles, while abstract ideas around data and mathematics can sometimes come off as more boring to them. In this way they've become well associated with foreign races as creatures of pranks, mischief, warlocks, artists, and charmers. Yet in a sense, they've also become a very culturally fluid species, and may be seen easily copying traits or sharing cultural values with complete sincerity once they've become used to a foreign landscape.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Pointy ears, elongated narrow-ending snouts, fur coats, and sharp eyes. They are comparable to a few vulpine bipedal races, but likely the strongest among them. Their builds are often tall, slender, a bit lanky and similar to what is often found with tikerin, aside from the stronger tikerin muscles corresponding to their legs and hips. Fur coat colors can vary on a very earthy or monochrome scale, often red, brown, gray, or some variation between. White and black have been observed, but not so starkly common, and of course magically matured jisuki can blur their true colors anyway with their powers. Their tails are their more unique asset. One tail grows out like normal until their late teens. Typical magical practice and regime is believed to help develop healthier extra tails, but regardless a second tail usually sprouts before their twenties, and by their thirties they tend to have three fully developed tails. Four and five tails are a very rare mutation found in some, as are being left old with two or one singular tail. When using their magic, many more incorporeal tails can be seen by most races as if even a single tailed jisuki has suddenly six-to-nine glowing tails.   Male & female differences are mostly standard to bipedal mammal dimorphism, except that height variables are roughly even, though males are still more often stronger. Males also tend to have more tuft fur along their faces. Its also observed and believed to stem from hormones that magic discipline is relative to their born sex, with males having more forceful and kenetic energy focused powers such as conjuring astral fires, firing gusts of wind, or enhancing their speed. Females however, are more natural to illusive practices, distorting their body or perceptions of light, and have been commonly known to change their whole form to other's perceptions. Likewise they can trigger certain empathic feelings and abilities, triggering sensations of fear, anger, peace, or even illness and slow drawn energy syphons. These practices aren't entirely exclusive to each binary, but by far a stark contrast in averages and practices, with males struggling more to even change their fur color while females are inefficient at more aggressive casting spells.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Jisuki on a regular basis are capable omnivores, and will be found eating vegetables, grains, and love fruits as well as meat. They're largely fans of eggs, rice, vyllk, pork, chicken, berries, beer, wine, tea, and especially have a guilty "sterotypical" affinity for deep-fried vyllk and tikerin. They often reject midnight meats, but have had some 'humorous' jokes and consumption for it. In recent years they've come to consider taur beef surprisingly 'cheap' enjoyment, but this is very likely because they've let a ton of them multiply and roam their homeworld. On this wide diet, they often eat only small portions of regular food, but may be found eating somewhat frequently. Typically a lot of meals are cooked quick, simple, or with magic, while heavier or slow roasted dishes are for special events.

Anivoring

One distinct property of Jisuki is they're also Anivores. They also use this as a verb, akin to someone going fishing. Its developed alternative terms like soul sipping, mana-milk and mana-milking, karma candy, and simply: Soul-eating. This is the practice of absorbing, extracting, and often literal devouring of soul essence. This includes being capable of taking out most energy, excess mana, and emotional and consciously cognitive structure of an individuals ego and soul. This aspect is seen a bit like peeling onions, in that more magic forward or complex beings are harder or have more to draw from, extracting pieces or fragments as white orbs or stringy bulbs and white embers. The more one takes, the weaker and more lost they feel. Usually a small extraction is survivable and can have a full recovery, but precise 'deep cuts', or repeated consumption can lead to sickness, amnesia, loss of magic, and death, and even in smaller doses causes fatigue and dizzyness. Jisuki can pull and store or convert this material in other ways, but most often eat it.   Anivoring is a very rich and healthy, almost essential to most vixen diets. It assists in their magical growth and being able to comprehend more forms and deeper feelings for illusions. As such they're usually the hunters in their society, and practice from an early age on smaller souls from animals. Some strictly stick to this, and refuse to harm sapiens in this manner. However akin to one of its nicknames, anivoring results can be like a milk in that while they're nutrient rich, they're also dense and advised in moderation. Overconsuming can lead to vomiting, magical discharges, and hallucinations. Consuming stronger souls and more potent beings can even potentially alter the head-space of the jisuki, or give them memories or feelings they don't usually have based on their last meal's life. And most obviously with a condition to dieting, it must be understood, souls can actually be fattening, however the calories are very easy to burn off if gained strictly from anivoring gluttony.    Dark mana can also be consumed, however its heavier and less easy to draw out, and the jisuki must release or reform their core mana, often producing it into a vessel or creating a separate mana-driven spectral form. Dark mana than reconfigures their abilities to more dense, punchy, and tactile effects, changing a lot of their base abilities. While they can only make this change and eat souls from darkened mana infused users and spirits in rare ecosystems, they can use malicite to channel more of this magic without hurting their consumed reserves. However the darkened souls are even heavier, and produce similar adjustments, often leading to slower responses, more durability, more thorough contemplation, less animated expressions and drooping tails, a loss of most aura-glow, and gluttonous eating habits. Dark jisuki tend to look more sleepy, and quickly plump-up. Contrary to the next section, these fatter dark foxes are more often just a bit doughy and chunky, smaller on average than Rah-Sho-Jin mages, however unlike those mages the dark mana tends to throw off all prior function of shape shifting and they are stuck letting others know how much they've let it go.

Rah-Sho-Jin

Jisuki are believed to be one of two covergent origins for a rare art of magic and mana-practice. A large culture developed on Kitori that discovered far more dynamic, potent, and flexible magic by burning off fat and converting it to mana-powers. This has even allowed easier tradition bending of gendered talents, letting females fire off energy blasts, speed, and heavy strength with more ease, and giving males more room to reshape and transform the visible world around them. These Jisuki embrace the art and magic so much that they have worked their network and diets to be far more voracious, heavy, and fattening. They attempt to ensure they have extra weight akin to being prepared and showing prestige, readiness, or craving for sport or magic practice. They've embraced heavier diets, fatter body types, and consume copious amounts of fried vyllk and pastries in addition to their colony's more unusually thickening produce. However they've also long been enemies with a rogue skonort group that has always intended to have their fill of fat and stuffed foxes, so there's a bit of risk to their 'gained' powers.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Their pelts are highly valued, and superstitions carry about preserving their eyes as well. Nugget's Queen has found their meat to be in good value, though sometimes struggle to consistently obtain it. Their powers and mischief makes them hard to contain, but once placated, their petite figures are quickly lost to sweets and greasy meals and their meat is popular in slow roasts with some myths about consuming it giving off powers.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their sense of smell and touch is vastly superior to most other senses. They are still efficient with sight and hearing, though not as perfect as some races. They tend to be mildly empathic even in times of not trying to be, and tend to also have a sixth sense about foretelling weather shifts, but against all superstitions and con-artists are not fortune tellers. In fact, some in poor coincidence have died over taking payments for those claims, clearly not foretelling when to pack up the scam.
