Kanyba

Gigantic eel that patrols the inter-island waters of the Feral Isles. Able to coil around vessels and break them in half to feast on the passengers. Some have been tamed by the Feralese and can serve as draft animals, helping guide large barges across long distances quickly.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The few that survive to adulthood can reach up to a dozen metter in length for a meter in girth. Rumors exist of even large specimens however.

Growth Rate & Stages

Young Kanybas are born immature and weak, reaching a meter long at best. They are forced to scavenge the bottom of the sea or hunt weaker creatures as best they can. They slither inside corals for protection, staying put for a longer period of time than their adult forms will. Older Kanybas can predate their own kind given the chance.

Ecology and Habitats

Kanybas live in warm waters and corals and dislike the high seas. They rarely deviate from their patrolling schedule which can span an entire island's circumference. They prefer to wait for prey to appear on their route, which makes them predictible and helps mitigate their dangerousness somewhat.

Dietary Needs and Habits

As indiscriminate carnivores, they are also scavengers with the ability to consume old rotten flesh, even those floating on the surface.

Behaviour

These giant eels are solitary creatures, you rarely find more than two around an island and they stray from each other outside breeding season. Each individual sticks to its scheduled route after a potential scuffle with rivals, combat determines who goes where first or who gets the best hiding hole.
