Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitten

Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens combine the most beautiful, whimsical aspects of Fairy Magic into a single species. They are most commonly seen as mounts for flightless Fairies, but can also be held as loyal pets by larger sapient species. Their rainbow-colored fur and wings as well as their unicorn-like horn make them a sight to behold regardless.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens have the usual anatomy of an adult cat - which makes "kitten" a slight misnomer - with added butterfly-like wings and a small, pointy horn like that of a unicorn. Their fur and wings shine in all the colors of a rainbow, usually displaying a gradient of all the colors from head to tail, although there are some individuals with more intricate patterns. The fangs of a Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitten are far less sharp than that of a regular cat, and it tongue is much softer - an adaptation to its mostly viscous diet.

Genetics and Reproduction

No sapient species, not even fairies, have ever seen Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens reproduce. When a flightless fairy needs one as a mount, it usually shows up within a few days. They have also never been closely inspected for scientific purposes. Some people believe that Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens have the magic ability to soothe a person's curiosity about themselves, in order to keep their species' secrets.

Dietary Needs and Habits

A Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitten's diet consists mostly of viscous sweet liquids, like nectar, honey, jam, or fruit juice. They also sometimes eat herbs, grass, and whole fruits. While Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens can theoretically digest and live off of more savory food like vegetables and meat, they usually opt to not touch any of those.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens form a strong relationship with their rider or owner, and entirely depend on them to live. Social bonds between two or more Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens exist, but are rare and not nearly as strong. When a Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitten's rider or owner dies or is gravely injured, it will fall into a deep state of grief. Some individuals go so far as to fly away from their home in search of their master's soul, never stopping to eat or sleep. Individuals that are malnourished and grieving in this way can be recognized by their de-saturated fur color and thin stature, and need a caring and loving individual to take them in more than they need sleep or sustenance.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens are most common in the rain forests South of the Ekuran Desert, where most fairies are at home as well. Stray Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens can sometimes wander all the way to Berset on their own, but no individuals - besides imported pets - have yet been sighted anywhere North of the Ekuran Desert or on other continents.

Average Intelligence

Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kittens are infamous for their high cunning and charm, knowing exactly how far they can go with their pranks and mischief before suffering any consequences. They are also excellent way-finders, and can respond to so many commands that some people think they can understand speech. This belief, like others, has never been scientifically verified though.
