Tug Booster Vehicle in Opposition: Mars | World Anvil

Tug Booster

Tug Boosters are largely autonomous vessels designed to provide thrust to other ships without expending that ship's propellant mass. This can be used for orbital station keeping, docking navigation, emergency rescue, or as an adhoc stage one for interplanetary transfers. As the name implies, the tugs consist of a large booster, RCS thrusters, and either electromagnetic or mechanical clamps to affix to the target vessel. Most Tugs use chemical boosters rather than expensive and heavily regulated fusion drives better suited for interplanetary travel. Tugs often work in groups to move large vessels.
