Marineri
The predominant tribal language of Mars, drawing mainly from English and Korean, though developing in isolation for several generations. This is a result of Hannah's attempts to teach the first generation of Native Martians both English (the operational language of the Mars Colony) and her mother tongue, Korean. After her death the partial understanding of both languages eroded into a functional blend with neologisms to suit their needs.
Writing System
Marineri script follows Korean syllabic structure but with a novel set of characters that borrow more heavily from the English/Latin Alphabet system. The characters evolved to possess sharp angles and few curves so they can be easily engraved on metal or rock surfaces. Text can be rendered vertically or horizontally, left to right.
Geographical Distribution
Marineri is the majority language of the Mariner Valley Region, though its usage has spread beyond to other areas with prominent Native Martian settlements, especially of those affiliated with The Sons of Mars.
