Genetic Engineering

Starting with CRISPR in the early 21st Century, mankind has explored the boundaries of genetic engineering. By the 24th century it is common for families that can afford it to seek prenatal gene therapy to correct genetic defects and ailments. The more wealthy often take it a step further with cosmetic changes (like customized eye color) and performance enhancing genetic modifications to give their children an advantage in life. Genetically modified humans make up a significant and steadily growing minority on Earth (and majority in many extraterrestrial settings). The most extreme example of genetic engineering comes in the form of Synthetically Adapted Human Beings (SAHBs) who are bred to survive harsh extraterrestrial conditions on Luna, Mars, and beyond.
