Flip-hats

Flip-hats are a form of Wearable Tech popularized in the early 24th century. Flip-hats come in a wide variety of shapes, styles, and colors (some are more headband-like than hat-like), but are characterized by a common feature: a flip-down augmented reality mono- or bino- visor. Unlike Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality glasses, goggles, visors, and helmets, Flip-hats' visors are only pulled down when the wearer wishes to interface with the technology, such as answering a call, sending a message, taking a video, or playing a game. It can easily be flipped back out of the wearer's line of sight when it is no longer needed.   Flip-hats vary in quality and technological sophistication. Some are merely designed as peripherals for other personal technology like tablets and multicoms, but others are smart devices in their own right. The frequency of stand-alone flip-hats has risen over time with improvements in consumer technology.   Flip-hats are usually semi-rigid, with hard surfaces to protect the electronics and visor, but can otherwise be made of soft comfort fabrics or weather resistant polymers. Some are even minimalist interpretations more resemblant of headbands than any sort of hat or cap. Flip-hats originally became popular in South America, and Southeast Asia before spreading to Africa and various orbital colonies. The hats only reached popularity in North America and Europe in the early 2310's.
