Deep Space Explorer

Deep Space Explorers are manned vessels designed with high thrust outputs to carry exploratory crews to the outer solar system. DSEs are usually custom made for specific journeys (for instance greater radioactive shielding to visit Jupiter). Most DSEs have small cabins and spartan designs to cut down on unnecessary mass. The majority of a DSE's mass will usually be reaction mass to overcome the distances and thrust requirements. Some DSEs overlap with the role of Interplanetary Research Vessels, though the added mass of research equipment often means an exponential increase in thrust needed to reach Deep Space.
