Bifrost Bridge

The Bifrost Bridge, also known as the Rainbow Formation is a tradition of the TASA Space Corps. When dignitaries, VIPs, or senior officers board a TASA vessel of size Frigate or larger, the crew will assemble a welcoming party.   The welcoming party will be drawn from different crew sections aboard the ship, adorned in the colored "High Visibility" variant of their Near-Vacuum Protective Utility Coveralls (NVPUC) corresponding to their rate. An even number of at least two personnel from each of the available High-Vis NVPUC color categories should be present. The welcoming party will form two lines abreast to either side of the entrant’s path as they step onto or off of the vessel. The party renders a salute until the entrant has passed them.   This formation is known as the Bifrost Bridge, named after the rainbow bridge of Norse mythology that links Midgard (Earth) with Asgard (the Realm of the Gods). In this case, The TASA Bifrost is intended to symbolize the entrant’s transition from Earth to the realm of Space. This tradition was established by Scandinavian TASA Admiral Gustav Ericsson in an adaptation of a pre-War US Navy tradition known as Tending the Side. In the case of Aircraft Carriers, Tending the Side was performed by an array of personnel in colored uniforms, known as "Rainbow Sideboys," which served as the inspiration for the TASA tradition.   The Bifrost Bridge welcoming party may be increased in size at the ship commander’s discretion, generally in proportion to the importance of the visiting dignitary.
