Solstice

A solstice is an event that occurs when the sun reaches either its maximum or minimum length of time visible in the sky. The summer solstice (21 June) is thus the longest day of the year, whereas the winter solstice (21 December) is the shortest. These two days also mark the peak strength of the Summer Court and Winter Court of the Feywild, respectively.

The evening of the summer solstice is celebrated in Moon Elf traditions as Midsummer's Night. This is celebrated with parades full of singing, dancing, and elaborate costumes adorned with Ithilgraine tattoos. In Cantonova, the Summer Court Fey themselves are welcomed into the city with open arms and given offerings of food and jewelry.   The winter solstice, similarly, is often celebrated in High Elf cultures. Legends and artwork show the grandeur of the candlelit feasts that the lost city of Bjália would hold in honor of their Winter Court patrons. The Northern Lights are at their most visible in northern Scalados at this time of year, making the celebrations even more beautiful. The winter solstice is still celebrated within the High Elf Diaspora as a time to dress in one's finest jewels, drink fine liquors and ancalvï, and attend the Opera.   In the Western Woods, the winter solstice marks the start of Habernuë, the season of hibernation.
