Sluagh (sloo-ah)

The Sluagh, or the Host of the Unforgiven Dead, are a type of Undead Courtless Fey creature that once had a mortal Soul.   The sluagh are the personification of hopeless grief. They seek out doomed souls consumed by hopelessness, descend upon them, and leech out any remaining joy until their target dies. Anyone who dies by the sluagh loses their soul and transforms into a member of the sluagh themselves.   "Sluagh" is the true name both for the collective Host of the Unforgiven Dead and for any individual creature or creatures therein. Reference to a singular "sluagh" is typically pointless, as the sluagh shares a collective hive mind.

Basic Information

Anatomy

In their most natural form, the sluagh appear as enormous feathered creatures, nine feet tall, with leathery wings and misshapen forms shrouded in layer upon layer of black feathers that drip with tar. They have jagged talons that grasp at their prey and three rows of sharp, shark-like white teeth. Their eyes are green, as any fey creature's are.   The sluagh can shapeshift into any Humanoid or fey creature, and tend to prefer taking forms that they believe their chosen prey will trust. Even when shapeshifted, their eyes remain green.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The sluagh can sense any creature who utters their name anywhere in the Feywild or on the Material Plane. They are immediately and inexorably drawn towards that creature, and will not stop pursuing them until the creature's death, unless commanded to turn back by an Archfey Regnant. Though the strength of their pursuit may fade if the creature manages to kill the initial sluagh that pursues them, they will eventually always send more sluagh towards them.
