Grotto of the Bluestone Witches
The Grotto of the Bluestone Witches is a tunnel complex inhabited by the semi-secret society of the Bluestone Witches. It is embedded high in the subterranean portion of Linnunrata, but still receives enough natural light to grow plants due to its unusual structure.
Purpose / Function
The Grotto of the Bluestone Witches houses its namesake Bluestone Witches and their various shops, apothecaries, and ritual halls. People outside the coven are allowed into a select few rooms of the Grotto, but it is otherwise completely off-limits, with magical consequences to those who try to bypass the barriers that keep them out.
I caught a glimpse of some incredible magic—strangely, my quill will not let me describe it—before promptly being expelled in a puff of smoke and having to spend several ignominious days of my visit transformed into a mink. I wouldn't recommend it to you, dear reader, but I'd be lying to both of us if I said I'd have done any different in another lifetime."
—Merriweather Jaunt, The Homesick Halfling's Guide to Linnunrata
Alterations
The natural granite of the Blue Mountains, though somewhat cooler-toned than that of other ranges due to its mineral composition, is not ordinarily the brilliant blue color found in the Grotto. However, the stone seems to have naturally reacted to centuries of exposure to the coven's unusual semi-druidic magic, and changed color in response.
Sunlight shines through the grotto in certain areas, allowing the witches to cultivate plants and perform spells that react to sunlight and moonlight. However, no ventilation holes or openings are visible from the corresponding surface of the upper mountain. On nights when the Material Plane enters a new constellation's domain in the Zodiac, the grotto is bathed in brilliant purple light.
