All dovicorlands respect this position without fail, and all in the medical field strive to one day be called ser.
Qualifications
To become a medical adjudicator, a medic must have worked with five other adjudicators and have received letters of recommendation from them within a period of ten years. To even be allowed to work alongside an adjudicator, the healer must have graduated from an edviere and done their exchange program (whether through the edviere or on their own).
Requirements
While there is no rule about what species a medical adjudicator must be, there has never been one of a species other than a dovicorland. As it is difficult for other species to work in an edviere, let alone graduate from one, this title remains solely a dovicorland one.
Appointment
After receiving five letters of recommendation, the healer desiring this role must ask a sixth adjudicator to call for a raising. This adjudicator sends the word out to all others of their rank and other important members of the edviere, along with the date of their raising. As long as one other adjudicator comes to assist that sixth adjudicator, the ser-incumbent will be raised to their new rank.
Duties
A medical adjudicator is expected never to harm, unless that is the only way to heal the person in question. Unless assaulted first, unable to run away, and striking in self-defense, they cannot kill any sapient species. Their life is devoted to medicine first and foremost, with all other responsibilities coming second to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of all.
Responsibilities
Attached to at least one edviere, medical adjudicators run their hospitals. They are knowledgeable to cover any of the districts and are expected to assist in pairing specialists in different fields together depending on a patients symptoms and diagnoses. They oversee and take part in medical advancements, including research and what experimentation might be needed.
Benefits
A medical adjudicator is the highest honour in Ganeid, giving them clout in politics. While it is technically an unpaid position, as the edviere does not give more even to those with this expertise, an adjudicator's pay is often given by their patients and their families.
While the edvieres do not pay an adjudicator directly, an adjudicator can ask for any and all funds, personnel, or equipment needed for a patient and the edviere will do everything in their power to fulfill it.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
If a medical adjudicator is found consistently lacking in fulfilling their responsibilities, or acting on their own to harm another without probable cause, the other adjudicators can strip them of their title. The ex-ser is arrested and the word is spread about their fall from grace. They will serve however much time as their crime requires and can never regain a place as an adjudicator.
