Dzid Moroz (tsid more-ose)

The Joyous Dzid Moroz

A lost traveller marches through snow in the dead of winter. His hands and feet are numb and his entire body is freezing, he regrets taking the wrong turn and he may never make it home. With little food, drops of frozen water, and having lost his hope in the snow, he falls to his knees. Too tired to cry, let alone stand he kneels in the winter wind, it whips around him like a stone in a river and he dreams of a warm fire far from here. He hallucinates the sounds around him, as he believes he hears bells and the clattering of hooves upon ice. The shouting and laughing of a man. Unconsciousness takes him as he succumbs to the cold. But he wakes up to the warmth of a fire, the hearth glows before him as he find himself in a house. The wind swirls outside and a man and woman stand before him, clad in warm clothes of bright colors. The man, weathered by age with red cheeks and a long beard, dressed in brightly colored red clothes. The woman, a younger individual with a glowing smile and a blue coat, like the sky above in summer. They found him in the snow, took him to their home, and brought him back to health after only a day of rest. After feeding him, they sent him on his way. He left through the door and found himself in the city, with no house door behind him.   Dzid Moroz is an interesting character. Having only been observed for the past 50 years or so, this man wanders through Farwind in the winter months helping those in need alongside his daughter, Snegurochka. People have heard the sound of sleigh bells, the clattering of hooves, and the echoing laughter as he rides throughout the winter landscape. Those who are lucky enough to encounter him in times of trouble will be presented with gifts.

Divine Domains

Dzid Moroz is viewed in certain circles as a god. There are rumors that there are priests and clerics who travel and do work in his name, but those rumors are not common to hear in taverns and alehouses.   His closest associated domain is of joy and cheer. It is his duty to bring happiness to the world and he does so wearing a smile upon his face. He brings gifts to lift people's spirits and inspire hope in often the darkest and coldest times of the year. However, he turns his back on those who spread the opposite. Those who work to spread sorrow, rage, or other negative emotions, they have earned the ire of Moroz.   Gifts and the giving of such are also closely tied to Dzid Moroz. Giving to those who need is a noble goal, especially in a place as harsh and cold as Veliky Farwind it is even more so as one bad winter could mean starvation. He inspires us to take care and watch over each other, while also doing the same.

Artifacts

Dzid Moroz has numerous artifacts associated with him, but very little is known about any of them. A sleigh that can travel through the sky at incredible speeds. A special leatherbound sack that hold untold treasures. A beautiful red coat. All of these are symbols and artifacts of Dzid Moroz, and they belong to him alone.

Personal history

The history of this character is largely unknown by the mortals of the world. Due to the recent appearance of this individual there are very few writings of him and he has no known temples. At least if he does, they are kept a close secret.   The one thing that people do understand is that he is not of the mortal realm. He is a celestial being of divine power with the ability to know when people are in dire need. However, when he was visited by a paladin, it was discovered that he carries both the essence of divinity that celestials carry, but also the essence of fiends, specifically from the hells.   One theory is that he was a wizard who lived in the northernmost reaches of the world upon a vast ice sheet. He ruled the ice sheet as his kingdom and thanks to his work it was green as a Vallais pasture. Acres of trees coated the ground and fields of grain fed his people. However, when the Ruination came, it was all destroyed and his kingdom was laid to ruin. The only surviors are him and a girl who he adopted as his daughter. He pledged himself to serve the gods against the Crowns and in doing so earned himself and his daughter a slice of divinity. However. no one has found ruins of any castle in the northernmost reaches of the world built by humans. The closest example are towering keeps once maintained by the Antemortian Giants and their vast kingdoms.   Another theory is that he was actually on the other side of the Ruination and served as a Crown Lieutenant. A terrifying fiend who slew hundreds and bathed in their blood as a treat. However, during a fight with the gods, they captured him and put him through the worst torture they could think of. They permanently removed his malice and placed a divine seed inside his heart. The seed blossomed and suddenly the fiend was unrecognizable, a vision of joy with smiling rows of sharpened teeth that gave off a feeling of jovial goodwill, instead of malicious and insidious. That would explain the fiendish essence and divine essence, but no religious records hold the name of this devil and does not explain where Snegurochka comes from.
