Calgad, The Underdog

The Underdog, God of Unknown Warriors and Storied Champions Alike Calgad

A warrior stands in rugged leathers wielding a greataxe over his shoulder. He stares down a beast that makes him look as if he were a mouse before an angry cat. He shows no fear upon his face in these moments of immense danger and nearly certain death. However, he is the humble distraction, as the other members of his group prepare their attacks from hiding.   Meanwhile, on a battlefield far away in the midst of spring, an army marches to war and conflict. Levies prepare on either side armed with pikes, spears, and shields to face off against an army. The humble levy, a peasant who is drafted to fight in this war is terrified. His heart tries to escape his chest but he holds the symbol of the hammer closer to his chest to keep his heart inside.   A hero of the little man, a patron of guards and militias alike, and a protector of those who hold bravery in their heart. Calgad is a god who always favors the little guy. The sworn enemy of tyrants and the destroyer of oppression. He is often referred to as The Underdog due to his ideology and his followers. He is the patron saint of both the revolutionary preparing to overthrow a tyrannical king, and the levy upon the field of battle far away from their family. Calgad is not a god you will find amongst the nobility, as his followers are amongst the common folk. Due to this view, he has made an enemy of some of the Campiotic Deities and gods of other pantheons. However, if necessary he will gladly pick up the hammer by their side to face off against a threat to the universe. His reputation has also earned the ire of The Campiotic Guide and numerous members of the ruling classes. However, his worship is not outlawed for several reasons. Firstly, it is great for the morale of your soldiers. Secondly, you don't want to anger the followers of the Underdog. The King of Marceas tried that, and he was swiftly beheaded. Rulers have tried to keep balance, or else they face a people's crusade upon their doorstep.

Divine Domains

War, Strategy, Strength, Change, Destruction, and Hope.   You need all of those things for a revolution, and Calgad had all of those qualities during his.   His primary domain is that of war. Generalized and simple, a god of war is a god of fighting and battle. A patron to watch over armies and give favor to those who fight in their name. There exist many gods of war and Calgad is counted among their number, however the war that is most often associated with him is not of clashing knights and large scale sieges. It is of hundreds of enraged people who call out as one. Simple weapons in hand they charge against the odds and with his favor they come out on the other side victorious. His war is also one of cleverness, in order to win against an army of knights, you must find the cracks in their armor. Clever tacticians and brilliant strategies are favored by Calgad, much different from the brave charges and bloodshed of Nimbur or the order and glory of Regina.

Artifacts

The Bell of Revolution. A hammer of great power that was forged by a group of Calgader blacksmiths, and blessed by a Calgader Archpriest. This hammer is a weapon of great heroes and the symbol of revolutions.   This large weapon is shaped with a hammer's concave head on one end, the sharp spike of a pick on the other, connected by an iron fist and placed upon the pole of a broken banner. This hammer is striking and violent in appearance with jagged edges that can cave skulls or pierce armor. The fist signifies the raised fists of those who seek to stand against oppression, putting their life on the line for a future more free.

Calgad has many symbols to signify his presence, priests, and influence.   The most common symbol is that of a crimson dogs paw placed upon a circle. It was Calgads symbol that he wears upon his own armor to serve as his mark of recognition.   Another symbol is that of a raised hammer. Calgad's favorite weapon was always the hammer. It's destructive efficiency, the simple design, the brutality, and the tactical uses of it. It is a weapon to even the playing field as much as possible between a group of unarmored people and a well armored tyrant. It crushes armor and batters the body and soul. The revolutionary can finlict crushing blows as retaliation for the crushing weight of the tyrants heels upon their society.
