Valedorous The Corrupted
"Dark lord; I have come to bargain." The beholder announced, peering into a black portal. Under normal circumstances, he would never trust another being for even a cup of sugar. But Valedorous was desperate; his lust for power was too great. He vied for more darkness; his studies leading him to the very being that triggered the cataclysm.
"I've been expecting you..." Came the response from beyond the abyss. Valedorous had expected as much, but was unnerved nonetheless. Beholderkin rightly thought of themselves as superior beings; but this was different. He was communing with a god, and an ancient one at that.
"Oh great one, I beseech thee." Valedorous spoke with gritted teeth; finding it difficult to subjugate himself to the deity.
"You seek the everlasting darkness, don't you?" The dark lord interrupted, their voice calm and calculated, warm and cold simultaneously.
The beholder nodded, eye stalks trying to peer into the infinite void.
"How intreguing; that one of your kind would seek me out..." The Primordial continued. "I have...a preposition. I shall give you the might you seek, if you pledge yourself to me....."
Valedorous sighed, mulling over the bargain. He hated the idea of being an underling; but to deny a god was equally foolish.
"I think you will find our goals are one and the same, comrade...." The voice returned, as if reading his mind. a sound like soft wind eminated from the portal. laughter perhaps? Valedorous couldn't tell.
"I see." The beholder responded. "Fine; I shall be yours. but I expect some high position." A long silence followed. Valdorous cursed under his breath. He had let his ego ruin him again, it appeared.
"naturally." The dark lord finally replied. "You will be the right hand in my latest ploy..."
Suddenly, The lair turned pitch black, all the magic light snuffed out in an instant. Valedorous shrieked in agony, as his body was violently altered. He blinked; now able to see even in the mystical darkness that had enveloped his lair. His eyes burned in pain, old powers exchanged with the Primordial's blessings.
