Shellone

Mistress of the Departed, Shellone is the goddess of the mortal afterlife and the bringing of souls to it. Her attributes cover a wide-variety of domains, including spiritual acceptance, shepherding to the afterlife, mourning the dead, and the judgement of mortal souls. This often casts her in a rather grim light, with many cultures portraying her as a frightening with equal parts simple kindness and cold cruelty.
As part of her position, it is Shellone and her worshippers that guide mortal souls to the afterlife and sort them, deciding to which god or realms they are sent to spend their immortal days. This naturally makes her clergy devout opponents of necromancy and undead, as both usually interrupt this process and keep souls from traveling to their proper places in the Outer Planes.

Tenets of Faith

Let those who live remain so, and let those who die do the same.   To impede the natural cycle of life and death is a transgression that cannot be absolved.   There is a time for all creatures to move onto the next life. You must be willing to aid this process, whether the person agrees or not.

Holidays

Mourn: On the 29th of Terman, many cultures celebrate a day of remembrance and mourning. This is a day to leave offerings on gravestones, sing tales of ancestors, or pray that you may see them again. This is also the day in which all the mortal souls trapped in the Plane Ethereal are drawn to Drea and sent outward, where they may be judged and sent on their way to the true afterlife.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Most portrayals of Shellone show her as a beautiful woman of moderate age and simple features. Different cultures portray her in different ways, with each having a unique manner of dress or striking appearance. Most have her dress in some grey or black robes with certain death-like aesthetics, very similarly to her clergy.

Body Features

Due to her variety of appearances, Shellone's body is rarely portrayed in a constant or predictable manner. Some have her very lithe and skinny, with corpse-like pale skin and sunken eyes. Others show her as lively and ruddy, with paint or tattoos making her resemble a skeleton. And others have her just be a skeleton.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

While her identity is fairly mysterious, most tales place Shellone as a female.

Intellectual Characteristics

Shellone is considered impartial in many ways, and her abilities allow her to know everything that a mortal has done while they were alive. This gives her a large pool of wisdom and information, though she does not always make use of this resource. There are times when she believes that the information possessed by the dead is meant to stay with them, and may withhold said information when pressed for it.

Morality & Philosophy

Because of her traditional, but non-biased philosophy, Shellone believes in judging individuals fairly and truly. She has been known to comfort those who met an unfortunate end and chastise those who lived brutal, loveless lives. As such, she is usually portrayed in one of the two ways, and rarely is she seen as both.

Social

Contacts & Relations

The saints of Shellone are a disparate, solitary group whom rarely interact with one another, as their duties are connected, but very separate.   Saint Akwamozu: One of the patron saints of pachyfolk, Akwamozu was charged with teaching mortals the methods of burial and respect for the dead. Many an angry spirit came about because of a brutal death or mistreatment of their body, so showing it respect can go a long way in sending them to the afterlife. To this end, he compiled all manner of ceremony and rite, and has spread these customs across the whole of Genaeth.
Saint Judak: Likely the most out of place of Shellone's saints, Saint Judak is odd in that he serves her and Orden almost in equal measure. Taking from Orden's impartiality and lawfulness, the Judge (as Judak is often called) governs the sentencing of mortals upon their deaths. All actions and pacts are reviewed and judged, with each individual's soul being sent to the realm or entity whom claims it. Disputes may occasionally occur occasionally, over a particularly powerful soul, and such matters are often handled by Saint Judak himself.
Saint Viata: By far the most compassionate of Shellone's saints, Viata acts as the elven people's connection to their spiritual ancestors and the integral role they play in the cycle of life and death. When a mortal dies, something must ferry it's soul to where ever it needs to be, and such a role falls to the Passeuse Anima, the greatest of whom is Saint Viata herself. Her worshippers work to help lingering spirits settle their mortal affairs and pass on, where they can properly be passed onto the next saint and his followers.
