Pestyl

Sower of sickness and creator of corruption, Pestyl is the goddess of all things that debilitate and waste. Physical strength is not her greatest strength, for she prefers methods that by-pass such abilities. Diseases, poisons, trickery: all are ways that Pestyl and her servants work to undo others and sow corruption among all other races. This is an important thing to note, as Pestyl's primary goal is not to just destroy or kill all things. She wishes to bring all creatures to her ideals of self-interest and evil, so that they might continue her dark legacy.   While her powers and influence are utilized by a wide number of creatures, no other species truly encapsulates the corruptive and insidious nature of Pestyl like the hags. Fey creatures drawn to the corruptive powers of Pestyl, hags have become so closely associated with her that many people forget that they are Fey first and foremost. This has even resulted in a variety of hag fully corrupted by Pestyl, known as Nox Hags.

Tenets of Faith

A defeated enemy can return, but a weakened enemy has more trouble with such things.   Disease is a natural counter to growth and expansion: it must always exist to impede the expansion of mortals.   To strike from the darkness and siphon strength from your foes is more effective than direct confrontation.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Whenever a version of Pestyl is committed to artistic representation, she is usually given the form of an elderly woman, covered in wrinkles and grey/white hair. Many interpretations have her dressed in obscuring clothes, rags, or any other from of low-class clothing. She is usually filthy and wretched, usually matching her clothes and appearance.

Body Features

If one aspect of Pestyl's appearance is constant, it is her pestilent form. She is always afflicted by some illness of some kind, and tales involving her usually involve such illnesses infecting peoples of the world. These can include, but are not limited to, boils, sores, bloody cough, lethargy, lesions, gangrene, or blindness.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

Almost all tales of Pestyl cast her as a female. She has supposedly taken other appearances and genders in order to corrupt others, but these forms have always been temporary.

Intellectual Characteristics

With knowledge of all existing maladies and diseases, Pestyl's mind is filled with dark secrets and sickening potential. She knows the recipes to all manner of debilitative substances, along with their proper counters. For each plague she creates, she knows how to cure it. For each poison, what antitoxin will purge the victim. This wealth of knowledge is vast, and Pestyl has proven willing to share it with individuals... should they pay her price.

Morality & Philosophy

With ideals of corrupting everything and eventually drawing all life into her stew of vileness and disgust, Pestyl is rarely worshipped openly or widely. Most interestingly, her willingness to work with good individuals is second only to Lucentius, as any interaction with such individuals provides her a chance to draw them away from their virtues and morals. However, while Lucentuis does it for power and control, Pestyl does it just for the sake of doing it.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Saint Serpensa: Lord of all snakefolk and the use of poisons, Serpensa was chosen by Pestyl to exemplify her ideals of weakening your foes through poison and magic. His status granted him an immunity to any and all poisons, and ability he used to it's fullest by shifting his form via alchemical means to become a horrific snake/humanoid abomination, a form eventually coveted by the Mahaadic magicians who became snakefolk, attempting to replicate his transformation.
Saint Morgana: Ancient witch and herbalist, Morgana is a hag-like saint often known as "the Mother of Hags." It was through her vile machinations that the once-benevolent hags of the Feywilds were made into the corrupt, curse-oriented beings they are today. Her skills in old magics and coercion are unchallenged across the realms, and her frequent taste for misfortune and curses has lead to many a cruel plot to unfold.
Saint Morbus: Detested by most reasonable beings, the Lord of the Sick is a putrescent being who covets the pain and power held by diseases and illnesses. He is responsible, directly or indirectly, for the concoction of plagues and pestilence, a duty he takes to with a grim pleasure. His vile nature has made him a sworn enemy of many Caelan worshippers, and his influences have lead to no end of troubles for the mortal races he was once a part of.
