Of Gods and Legends

There has always been magic in the world. It weaved together to create the gods, born to protect and guide their people. It chose their arks, standing alongside the deities to serve them.

It made revenants: manifestations of thoughts and ideas that care not for mortal kind.

It made demons: curious entities with uncontrollable power. 

Over a thousand years ago, the gods warred amongst themselves, until they found a bigger enemy. Banding together, they banished the revenants and isolated them into the Khotti. They closed the passages to the Er, creating gates to keep the demons at bay. Then they created peace with each other, formally unifying together and retreating to the Golden City.

For centuries, the immortals have left the world in peace leaving only the arks to serve and protect. Power has shifted and changed, falling into different hands, changing shape. Now people rely on technology to help them, viewing magic as a rare protector or the occasional piece of entertainment. Until the revenants grew tired of their enforced prison. Until the demons began to find new ways to pass between worlds.
