Guardians of Devotion Session 09 Report
General Summary
Picking up where Session 8 ended, the party is just outside of the Uttolot hideout at Croaker Cave, located north of Palebank Village. Jimmothy the Elf hostage from the battle at Pelc's Curiosities, is convinced through Jenkin's_Secretary's use of the Friendship Spell, to help the party get through the cave and to Hulil Lutan. However, since several party members can't see in the dark, Jimothy led most of the party by hand through the hideout. He was even kind enough to sneak them past three other gang members who were training Giant Ice Frogs.
Jimothy, still under the charm of Jenkins, brought the Blue Berry Gang through their sleeping quarters and gave Thalia a very nice bottle of Bald Dwarf Whisky and pointed out a trapped sleeping bag. Just before reaching the next pool, the charm ended. Before Jimothy was able to cry out, Jenkins and Johny Slays were able to "convince" Jimothy to keep helping. The temporary ally helped ferry members across a large pool on the back of a Giant Frost Toad. After this project was complete, Jimothy was able to go about his business.
The party came upon Hulil Lutan and her sidekick Reagrin Mau in deep prayerful trance, working to connect with their god Tiamat. Jenkins leveraged the Friendship spell again and set Thalia up to get critical information from the charmed Dwarf. Hulil let the party know that the illness is called Frigid Woe and that it comes from Eiselcross. She also indicated that it is somehow connected to the ancient city of Aeor and therefore sometimes treasure hunters die from it out there. She also disabled a significant trap on the chest in this area.
Thalia had convinced Hulil that the party was here to help and as such, needed the last remaining vial of the disease. Upon handing the blue vial, wrapped in leather casings, to our adventurer, the spell ended and Hulil attacked, striking Thalia in their face. Johny Slays was ready and countered the attack, dealing significant damage to the angry Dwarf immediately before initiative. The battle was short, but memorable. Jenkins turned Reagrin to as with a successful hit of a Whitchbolt spell. And Hulil made no noise when Johny cut her down, managing to maintain intense eye contact until the light left her eyes.
Johny Slays, with help from Thalia and Jenkins, was able to get into the chest that Hulil had been sitting on when they arrived. He got a lot of stuff. The party decided that it was time to go and the resident Druid was able to help ferry their team members back across the pool, giving the Giant Toad a good berry as a 'thank you.'
Without Jimothy's presence, the party decided to fight their way out of the cave. Jimothy was the first engage in combat and the first to die as two swarms of bats, two Giant Ice Frogs, and three other combatants, Larry, Moe, and Curly joined the fray after the sounds of combat erupted. Thalia had the presence of mind to pull a combatant into their own trapped sleeping bag and Zaynathan consumed an enemy entirely by fire.
On their way out of the cave, Thalia made a strong friend in one of the Giant Ice Frogs who invited them to return in the future, "when they are ready." Elro Aldataur was thrilled that the party had found the name of the illness and even managed to bring back a sample. He felt confident that with the name of the illness and the vial that he would be able to find out more information. Elro committed to contacting the party again when he had more information.
As has become custom, Chester greeted the party warmly when they returned. The Blue Berries were excited to learn that Guild Hall has started serving pies from some place just south of the city, "a Grammy's something or other".
