The Night of Singing Lights

This truly stunning phenomenon happens once a year, on the first full moon of Spring. Small bioluminescent fish from deep within the New Angeles Mines cave systems make their way up to the waters of the Twilight Lake to spawn. The result is a breathtaking swirling of what looks like tiny stars through the waters and a deep humming from the fish   The Denizens of New Angeles will often gather on the docks and shores to watch, in part because of the breathtaking display, but it is also often times far safer than remaining in the mines or mountains.

Manifestation

At dusk, on the first full moon of April, the Singing Glitterfin fish begin their arduous task, of climbing and swimming their way up from the cave systems of the New Angeles mines, and into the waters of Twilight lake. The small, seemingly harmless fish begin to emerge shortly after the sun has set, and then they must dodge a host of predators that lie in wait to gorge on the fish. For those that make it to the open waters, they create a truly breathtaking sight, as the small bioluminescent fish begin their courting song and dance. The small fish swim in elaborate swirling patterns that look like stars scattered through the waters and they begin to produce a chittering chorus

While stunning to watch, this phenomenon can also be extremely dangerous. The singing of one fish, while loud, is not concerning, but the singing and and reverberations of hundreds of the fish has been known to cause damage to the hulls of boats, and well as cause small landslides and tremors in the Mines. For those that venture into the water to swim amonst the fishes, the chittering has even caused temporary (and in some very rare cases, permanent) hearing loss.

At dawn, once their eggs have been laid, the fish make their way back down to the caves.

Localization

The Singing Glitterfin is only known to reside with the New Angeles Mountain cave systems.

I like this, many of the events had not had a beautiful side.

Great article! There's beauty and then there's nature's destructive forces!
