Grey-Weavers Organization in Odan | World Anvil

Grey-Weavers

The Grey-Weavers are the hidden servants of the Boslandic Elite. Acting as spies, thieves, and assassins, the Weavers are employed to deal with 'problems' outside the legal reach of government and other powerful institutions.   While their actions are permitted by the highest authorities in Boslandië, their existence is outright denied. This places them in a legal grey area, where they are unlikely to face long-term consequences for their crimes, which are swiftly concealed or covered up. However, this does not shield them from occasional short-term challenges, such as encounters with overzealous sheriffs or street justice.

Names

The organization has several names which are commonly used, mostly depending on language. They are called the Grey-Weavers in Common, Mal-Kwerook in Boslandic, and Nyó-bőzést in Korostrovik. They are often also just referred to as Weavers.

Organization

The Mal-Kwerook are organized in sets of 5, with each rank except for the Master containing a member associated with the following colours: Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White.   Each rank is identified by the type of garment they wear as part of their uniform. The order of the ranks starts with The Greymantle at the top, then the elite Cloaks, followed by the expert Belts, and lastly, the apprentice Bands.   This organizational pattern leaves the total number of Weavers at 156. This group is spread all across Boslandië and typically, each major city has no more than two Belts at any given time.

Uniform

The Weavers are identified by the both the colour and type of garment that they wear. At the head of the organization, The Master Greymantle wears the eponymous Grey Mantle of the Grey Weavers. The five Cloaks wear a cloak of their specific colour. The Belts wear a baldric of their specific colour which also contains a stripe for their leader's cloak colour. The Bands wear an armband with their specific colour, a stripe for their leader's belt colour within another for their senior leader's cloak colour.   For example: a common rank-and-file rogue could bear a black arm band, with a red stripe within a green stripe. This would indicate a hierarchy of Greymantle > Greencloak > Redbelt > Blackband.
