Demographics
There are only two main races in Volerum
Humans
The main inhabitants of the lower city. Many people flock to the capital for the oppurtunities it can bring.
Dwarves
The original inhabitants of Volerum, then it went by the name of Vole. When the Imperium was forming, the last group to be brought is was the dwarves of Clan Vole. They fought for years but eventually the Conquerer and the King of Clan Vole came together and made Volrum. To this day the dwarves of clan Vole still live in their mountain, shared with Humans.
Government
Volerum has always been run by the Octavian Imperium. The Imperium is a monarchy with the Emporer at its head, he has his council of advidors who help with the day to day decision making. The Dwarves of the upper city have a Chief, who has a seat in this coucil. In addition the people of the lower city have a mayor who also has a seat in the council. Togther the Emporer and their councilors make decision for running not only Volrum, but Octavia as a whole.
Defences
Since the early days of clan Vole, no one has been able to take the upper city. Since the building of the lower city, it has never been sieged. Although if a daring enough group decided to siege Volerum, they would have to deal with the legions housed in Fort Gryphon, as well as the famed Gryphon Knights. With land forces there is only way into the city, and by boat the only enrty point is the Harbour. The dwarves planned Volerum to not just withstand a siege, but to not be bothered by a siege.
Industry & Trade
In Octavia, Volerum is the place of oppurtunity. Almost every industry is present here. The mountains of clan Vole are home to rich iron and mythril mines. Most international trade is also done through Volerum since it is close to the northern border with the rest of mainland Auvran.
Infrastructure
Volerum is home to many wonders of Octavia. It is one of the few places where outsiders can see true Dwarven achitecture. When the humans and dwarves came together to create Volerum, the upper city was left untouched, instead the dwarves showed the humans how to build with dwarven methods. Another great wonder is the Vole Bridge. It is the only on foot entry point into Volerum. Due to the city being located on a peninsula inside a lake. The people of Volerum crafted a mighty bridge. it is big enough to march the legions at full capacity.
Districts
Volerum can be broken down into two major regions, each having many districts.
The Upper City
The ancestral home of the dwarven clan Vole. This part is where the dwarves and upper echelons of humnan society live. Roughly 20,000 people call the upper city home. There are four main districts in the upper city; Octavian Marque, Cloud Estates, Research District, and lastly the Vole Forge. The Octavian Marque, is a market and enterainment complex like no other. Here items from all across Auvran can be bought. The Cloud Estates is the residential district for the majority of upper city inhabitants. Dug into the mountain, these homes poke out of the mountains surface, giving the most astonishing views of all Auvran. The Research District is where the newly founded Mages Guild is located. The Imperial College is also present here, where humans and dwarves alike can learn. Laslty the Dwarven academy is in this district, where young dwarves are taught the hidden art of runic magic. The final district is the Vole Forge. Every dwarven clan has a forge, but the Vole forge is the only on available to non-humans. It is in this forge where Dwarves practice runic magic, it is also where the dwarves build the mighty amraments for the Imperium.
The Lower City
The lower city is only lower in verticality. The largest city in Octavia, maybe even Auvran. A city built by humans and dwarves alike, it is a melting pot of cultures and styles. There are three main districts and two residential districts. There is the Harbour district, Fort Gryphon, and Wage Street. The residential districts are called Bayside Valley, and the Boowig Park. The Harbour district is the major trade hub of Volerum, not a single merchant brings goods into Volerum by cart. Fort Gryphon is where the bulk of military is trained in Octavia. It is also home to the Circle of Gryphon Knights, The Imperium's elite calvalry unit who ride Gryphons into battle. There is a saying as to why the call it wage street. "Well, it's where we get our wages" Wage Street is the main market square of Volerum, the industries and trades present are numerous. Wage street is also where the majority of jobs in the lower city are besides the Harbour.
Assets
Being the capital of the Imperium, all the belongings of the royal family are in their treasury. The vault is said to be hidden somewhere deep in the mountains, and guarded by dragons. The other major asset to the city is the Forge. No other human settlement has access to a dwarven forge.
Guilds and Factions
Several guilds are headquartered in Volerum. The main guilds present are The Mages Guild, Couriers Guild, The Explorers,Dwarven Academy, and lastly the Cirle of the Gryphon.
