Siege of Ashus Castle

The Siege of Ashus castle is a siege that has been going on for a year, with the Shajin ready to give up as more rebellions appeared on the continent. The tide of the battle was only changed on the arrival of the Spanish, with their large cannons being able to take down the large gate to lead their men into the breach. This was the second battle the Shajin and the Spanish fought side-by-side against a rebellion.

The Conflict

Prelude

In 1517, the Ashus clan rebelled against the Shajin when they saw the Shajin's power was wavering, so decided to serve their own purpose and claim a large portion of the province east of Leylas. Despite controlling major strategic points, the Ashus were pushed back to their main castle in 1518, where they plan to hold their ground until the Shajin give up, as they are equipped with plenty of food and water to survive at least five years. Despite having overwhelming forces, the main problem with the siege for the Shajin is the walls itself, which they can't bring down due to the terrain around the castle preventing any catapults to be placed - and if it were, the Ashus archers would launch flaming arrows at it - which brought it down to besieging it until supplies went out.

The Engagement

In 1519, a fully supplied Shajin army came back to the siege and have brought an army of conquistadors with large cannons to break down the fortifications and give the Shajin a massive edge. Matsu agreed to lead a charge upon the castle to distract the Ashus while Cortés and his cannoneers get in position to blow up the gate leading into the castle, which is heavily guarded by archers. The plan worked and the Ashus were distracted away from the Spanish, who proceeded to blast down the gate and make way for a massive charge from the Shajin.   Not wanting to let the Shajin get all the glory, Cortés personally led his men at the head of the Shajin to the battlements, where they did close quarters with the Ashus clan and managed to fight their way towards the main castle, only losing a fraction of their swordsman company. Cortés and Matsu both oversaw the capture and execution of the entire Ashus family, marking the end of a long siege that wouldn't have been possible without the Spanish and their cannons.

Outcome

Ashus clan wiped out, rebellion ended and Ashus castle given to Cortés

Aftermath

Following the siege, Lord Matsu, seeing as no other clan is worthy of such a castle, awards Cortés and his expedition the Ashus castle in repayment for his help, even granting him the title of lord of an independent castle to boost the alliance between him and Cortés to a friendship, unaware that Cortés isn't a travelling nomad as he was led to believe. Only a month later, the thought that the Spanish were travelling nomads in search of a home came to an end when a second Spanish expedition came to the continent, numbering at over 1,400 conquistadors with a single mission to find Cortés and hang him for desertion.   The castle itself was renamed to Castle Cortés, and the Spanish were quick to establish a church and fly the Imperial Spanish flag over the ramparts. The castle was established as the unofficial main base of operations for Spanish activity on the continent, especially since it was seen by the Spaniards as the best they were going to get on the entire continent.
