Shajin Clan

The Shajin Clan is a clan of a family of white-haired lords, nicknamed the "Winterhearts," who control one of nine major feudal lordships vying for control over the continent of Ocrea - or, at least the lower half. A powerful clan throughout the War of Southern Ocrea, the Shajin's power only grew when they became the first ever clan to encounter the Europeans in 1519 and establish a political and military alliance with the Spanish, mainly out of pure necessity to gain access to the Spanish's firearms, which started a trade agreement known as the "Eastman Trade." They became the focal point of Spanish influence on the continent, as well as the first to ally with a foreign power, which led to other Europeans seeking alliances to gain a foothold the continent.

Structure

Society in the Shajin Clan is based on the strict class hierarchy originally established by the long-dismantled Kingdom of Ocrea. The lords were the leaders, followed by the rich nobility and military officials, with the farmers, artisans, and traders ranking below. This was intended to continue until one of the many clans have the power to claim the Kingdom of Ocrea, then they can finally pronounce themselves kings, so it was known that other clan lords were to bow to other powerful lords.

History

Following the migration period after the dismantlement of the Kingdom of Ocrea, the Shajin Clan was established by Li Shajin on the southern coastline of the Sapphire Sea in 1315, where they benefited primarily on trade from the sea and neighboring countries. In the mid-15th century, an alliance of several of the more powerful lords have shown to benefit the Shajin as they have managed to conquer almost the entire coastline of Sapphire Sea, sparking in a new mighty clan in the south, even moving their capital to the conquered city of Leylas. Years after, they entered the War of Southern Ocrea as a single lordship to take on eight other lordships in the war, but were not considered to be the most powerful aggressor in the conflict, until they managed to score a numerous amount of battles and capture many lands west of the coastline. In the early 16th century, they were the first ever clan to encounter the Spanish Empire, through the expedition of Hernán Cortés and his conquistadors, who have ushered in a new era and have changed the tide of the war considerably with their firearms.

Territories

The Shajin control a large portion of the coastline of the Sapphire Sea, but lacks in controlling a lot of territory west of the sea, as their narrowest point is the Leylas province which is only 70 kilometers east.

Military

In year 1490-1514, the Shajin saw a power growth in its military, but were still outmatched by both the Parjini and Carlin clans. Their armies are mostly complied of infantrymen equipped with heavy spears, katanas and lamellar armor with a blue tint, similar to many of the other clans on the continent. After formally forging an alliance with the Spanish Empire in 1521, they have since borrowed the conquistador's use of an iron breastplate and made it their own, though the heavy request of iron from both the blacksmiths and Spanish have regulated the use of the armor to nobility.

Religion

The Shajin Clan follow the faith of the Shulin, but are known to have a bad reputation with the head of the faith for granting rights to other religions to practice in their territory. Ever since the arrival of Catholic missionaries from Spain, Christianity became a strong faith in the entire clan, to the point where one of the Shajin lords converted to the faith.
