Pedro de Alvarado

Pedro de Alvarado y Contreras was a Spanish conquistador and member of Cortés' expedition, also made governor of numerous ports in Shajin territory. He participated in the conquest of Cuba, becoming known for his stern and ruthless nature, and in the expedition to Ocrea led by Hernán Cortés, the latter of which came to be, in his words, his most defining moment that brought true glory to his name.   His true rise to popularity came when he became one of the first conquistadors to encounter the lerush people in a jungle far north of Castle Cortés that was noticed by him to not be heavily detailed on any Shajin maps, following Cortés' departure back to Spain, where he led a small fraction of Cortés' soldiers into the jungle where he encountered the warrior-based lerush people, almost starting a massive conflict between the Spaniards and the lerush society after trying to threaten them with their muskets, where he was captured and kept prisoner until being released months later at the behest of Matsu Shajin. Years after Cortés return, he was assigned by Cortés himself to be the governor of a number of Shajin ports under Spanish control.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Pedro de Alvarado was born in 1485 in the town of Badajoz, Extremadura. Very little is known of Pedro's early life before his arrival in the Caribbean. He was considered affable by his fellow Spaniards and the other conquistadores trusted him. He married twice: first to a Spanish noblewoman, Francisca de la Cueva, who was related to the powerful Duke of Albuquerque, and then later, after her death, to Beatriz de la Cueva.   Soon after arriving in Santo Domingo, on Hispaniola, Pedro de Alvarado established a friendship with Hernán Cortés, who at the time was serving as public scribe. Alvarado joined Cortés to participate in the conquest of Cuba, under the command of Diego de Velázquez. After the invasion, Alvarado was managing a prosperous hacienda in the new colony. It is around this time that Pedro de Alvarado emerges into the historical record as a prosperous and influential hacienda-owner, already well connected with Velázquez, who was now governor of Cuba.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Alvarado was little suited to govern; when he held governing positions, he did little to establish stable foundations for rule over lands. His letters show no interest in civil matters, and he only discussed exploration and war. Despite this, he was known as an excellent commander, though a ruthless and hardened one.
