North Ocrean
The great rebuilders of the north
North Ocrean is a proxy term for the entirety of the human race in North Ocrea, primarily the ones who descended from the old Kingdom of Ocrea but decided to remain in the land to try and rebuild the ancient cities. They make up 20.5% of the total population of the continent. North Ocreans became known to not divide themselves into different clans but by the cities that they rebuilt, with most being harbor towns that bring in trade or piracy, forging a large block of city-states that take up most of the north.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Ocrean is the official and primary language of Ocrea. Unlike most of the southern realms, North Ocreans possess a writing style that greatly resembles old Norse handwriting, which was theorized to have been brought over by Viking explorers, primarily Lief Erikson, who traveled west but never returned from his journey, which was absorbed into the old Ocrean language as a different dialect and made popular only after the destruction of their kingdom.
Common Etiquette rules
The North Ocrean people tend to keep to themselves and family, purely out of their own protection of loved ones rather than rudeness.
Common Dress code
Unlike their brethren in the south, North Ocreans share no need for modesty. Their uniforms are based upon the type of climate that emerges each season, like thick wooly clothes being worn during colder seasons and simple tunics and trousers for temperamental seasons.
Art & Architecture
North Ocrean architecture is known to be reminiscent of the old stone and woodwork of the ancient Kingdom of Ocrea, which was rebuilt from the ruins of its destruction, which often had poor maintenance due to the need of valuable resources in other areas, which resulted in most of their furniture being made out of wood cushioned with blankets to be their only leisure.
Funerary and Memorial customs
North Ocreans tend not to bury or cremate people after they die, instead came to using their bodies as fertilizer for crops or food for farm animals, seeing it as a better way to make use of those who passed away. To memorialize their fallen, they construct posts outside of people's homes out of timber and write down the names of the dead.
Due to failure to create a steady economy to match the South Ocreans, piracy became part of North Ocrean lifestyle
