Elise the Kind

,,Don't judge a book by it's cover''

Personality:

Pros:

Elise is a quiet and introverted person, prefering to stay alone, out of civilization. While she is unexpressive on the exterior, she makes it all up with her kind, caring personality, she rarely shows to others.
If such a situation arises, Elise will risk her life to save others, even if she believes they are evil or she is overcome with fear. Once she forms a deep bond with another person, such as friendship, she won't let go. Elise will be loyal, trust and support the person to the very end.
Elise loves animals and likes to spend most of her time with them. Among her favourites are capybaras, fruit bats and chameleons. In terms of food, she loves grapefruits and almonds.

Cons:

Haunted by her past, Elise learned to not show her emotions and comes off as cold and uncaring, which makes it hard to create friendships. She has an irrational fear of strangers, mainly officials of the Servants of the blood gods religion, coming off of deep rooted distrust. Elise doesn't believe in painless death. To her, it's always the same, the animal or person is going to die anyway, so she doesn't bother with a quick kill. Cutting a vein and letting the animal bleed to death does the same job.
Elise is haunted by nightmares, every time she closes her eyes. Her mind never lets her sleep, never lets her rest, never lets her break away from her past. Despite her love of animals, she dislikes primates as they remind her of her own kind. Otherwise she dislikes the taste of fish and avocados.

Motivation:

Elise's past continues to haunt her mind, not letting her rest. Every time the opportunity arises, she will hold on and do everything to see the fall of the Servants of the blood gods religion and it's supporters, finaly finding peace in her mind.

Backstory:

Elise was born in a rather secluded village, near the furthest northern town of the Island of Origin, yet unaffected by the Servants of the blood gods religion, which was spreading like a plague. The culture of Hunters was widespread among her kind, so even at the young age of 5, she learned to use a bow and climb trees without any equipment. But, when her 6th birthday grew near, unknown to her, her parents were filled with fear and worry.

For many and many years Servants of the blood gods tried to convert this small village to their side, impose new laws and tradition onto the people, while destroying what was there before. But they refused. Hunting was a huge part of their culture and there was no way they would give it up to worship gods that demanded them to kill their own. But now, that they were the last settlement not worhipping the four blood gods, the religious officials decided to take it by force and kill everyone who refused to join.

It had to happen on the young girl's birthday. Just when she was celebrating with her family, they all kept their bows by their sides, awaiting the incoming attack. They didn't want to bother the children with what was about to go down, but they should have. The traps were set, the hunters were hiding all over the forest and the enemy army was quickly approaching. They weren't stupid, they knew the hunters would prepare traps and hide in the thick jungle foliage. So, they appraoched carefully and disarmed most of the traps, while shielding themselves from the incoming barrage of arrows.

Only in an hour, the villagers lost, and the soldiers flooded the village, storming into each house, either returning with a family with tied hands, or blood soaking their armor. Most died that day and only a few surrendered to the enemy, many more getting captured, mainly the children who couldn't defend themselves. Elise's family was killed in front of her, her father's throat slit, as blood sprayed all over the soldier, her mother meeting the same fate, her gut spilling out of her cut open belly. The child was horrified by the sight, but she couldn't run, or hide from the intruders. She was frozen in place, until they dragged her away.

The promises of letting those who surrender were all lies. Even the children were brought before the Blood altar and sacrificed without mercy. Elise was the last among them, watching all those she knew be killed, until it came time for her. But, by some miracle, she was spared. One of the men present decided to take her in as a slave. Perhaps he took liking to her, perhaps he simply wanted to spare her life. But all she got was another nightmare that would not end for years.

He treated her like an animal, living in dirty clothes and getting food only when she was done with her assignment, including when she was too sick, weak or tired to go on. She could only bathe when he took her out to the river, where she was forced to clean his clothing. Her small body was forced to work from the early morning, deep into the night, until it simply gave up and she passed out. The man beat and abused her in other ways, while forcing the religion, that took her family's life, onto her. Yet, the young girl pushes on and on. Her parents taught her well and she kept their words at heart.

5 years passed and Elise was now 11. Struck by her teenage years and formed by her abusive life as a wothless slave, she grew to be quiet and keep to herself, not even showing a sign of any emotion, in fear of giving her owner ammunition. Somehow she resisted his forcefull methods to bring her over to the Servants of the blood gods religion, which only made him more and more abusive, to the point he took advanatge of her several times.

When she reached 12, she had enough and one night snuck out of the house, breaking the chain he kept on her leg, when he was away or aleep, and escaped into the jungle. With just a makeshift knife and dirty rags as clothes, she had to make the most of what her parents taught her and survive. It was hard and first, but she was through much worse already. Through trying and failing over and over, she learned to make her own tools, wapons and clothes, even a bow good enough to hunt with. 6 years passed on and she became a full on wild woman, embracing her life in nature and forgetting about the civilization out there.

By the age of 18, she stumbled on a group of hunters while travelling to a new location. A few arrows were fired, but conflict was mostly avoided. They likely understood she was afraid and approached her carefully. Likely because Elise grew up with people like them, she gave in and they took her to the main camp. These hunters were curious about the young woman and her skills, offering her a place amongst them. It was clear she didn't speak with another person for years and years, with her rather basic communication skills and lack of knowldge about many customoms done during conversation or when around other people.

Elise eventually accepted the offer, perhaps tired of being alone in the jungle for so many years, or perhaps wanting to do more in her life than just survive. After 3 more months, the time to face the challenge came. Young men and women were gathered in one spot with a simple task of hunting as many animals as they could within three days, fully nude with just a bow, 10 arrows, a hatchet and a knife. Most quit within the first day, but Elise and the rest pushed on. 6 years living in these conditions taught her a lot, letting her easily come out on top, dragging several animals on a wooden sled back to the main camp.

She earned her place among the hunters and withing a year, it was her home. While she still sits in the corner during celebrations, barely within the reach of the fire, she is comfotable livig with these people, even considering some of them friends. Her past still haunts her mind, her dreams, but she continues to push and, and maybe, one day, she will find peace.
